Should Soldiers be offered the opportunity to freeze sperm?
Discuss Should Soldiers be offered the opportunity to freeze sperm? in Current Affairs, News and Analysis on The Army Rumour Service; I think it is a good idea and should be publically funded, but only while deployed. Once back and all OK, out of storage it goes.

Compulsory unless opt-out would be the way to go. ie You can opt out but have to sign a form saying that you do. A young soldier will probably not bother otherwise and may regret it if they return back infertile.

The thought of costs has raised it's ugly head again.
Bare in mind, though, the money thrown at wasters sponging through the benefits system. £11bn last year on disability living allowance alone.
The cost of freezing sperm is small fry. Soldiers conduct their duties for their country. Would it not be fair if the tax payer funded this, whilst they remain in service?

I don't think it's a numbers question.... more of an insurance policy.

Got to disagree with that. Tantamount to bullying. The MoD should do the education bit, the soldiers can fund their own sperm/egg storage. No-one should have to sign any opt-out. Talk about living in fear, or persuading people to opt in. Tsk. Or worse, arse covering.

Agreed on funding. I doubt anyone would make it compulsory, but it'd be easy to sell. You just need to know someone who's had 'em shot off, ask them if they'd have preferred the option - no contest.
