Opsec: Israeli raid thwarted by Facebook

    From the Torygrapf:

    Duh!

Israeli raid called off after soldier posts details on Facebook
The Israeli military called off a raid in Palestinian territory after a soldier posted details, including the time and place, on social networking website Facebook.

Israel's Army Radio reported that the raid was cancelled once authorities were alerted of the soldier's actions.

The soldier described in a status update how his unit planned a "clean-up" arrest raid in a West Bank area, the radio station said.

The soldier was court-martialed and sentenced to 10 days in prison. He was also removed from his battalion and combat postings.

Israel says raids in the West Bank are aimed at detaining militants suspected of planning attacks on Israelis. Palestinian officials say the incursions undermine efforts by the Western-backed Palestinian Authority to enforce law and order in the territory.

A military statement said that it is cracking down on soldiers' use of social networking web sites and has launched a campaign warning of the dangers of sharing military information online.

"Uploading classified information to social networks or any web site exposes the information to anyone who wishes to view it, including foreign and hostile intelligence services," the military statement read.

"Hostile intelligence agents scan the internet with an eye toward collecting information on the IDF (Israel Defense Forces), which may undermine operational success and imperil IDF forces."

The military said that soldiers were prohibited from publishing classified information, including photographs containing military data.

In posters placed on military bases, a mock Facebook page shows the images of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Syrian President Bashar Assad and Hizbollah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah.

Below their pictures – and Facebook "friend requests" – reads the slogan: "You think that everyone is your friend?"

And we have never done anyhting like that? Not much!!
If a man knows not and knows not that he knows not, he is a fool, shun him
If a man knows not and knows that he knows not, he can be taught, teach him
If a man knows and knows not that he knows, he is aslep, wake him
But if a man knows and knows that he knows, he is a prophet, follow him

    Or Lamebook

Worth 5 minutes browsing just to laugh at the mongishness of Facebook drones.
"You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is the beginning of the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."

    Good work sir!
"Scholars, of course, won’t have it so. Policies they say, and the subtly laid schemes of statesmen, are what influences the destinies of nations; the opinions of intellectuals, the writings of philosophers, settle the fate of mankind. Well, they may do their share, but in my experience the course of history is as often settled by someone having a belly-ache, or not sleeping well, or a sailor getting drunk, or some aristocratic harlot waggling her backside."
