Re: Do You Live in a Marginal Seat?

My MP in the constituency of Warrington North is the detestable Helen Jones. Elected in 1997 as one of the "Blair Babes" she currently sits in the in the 115th safest seat in the country with a majority of over 12,000. The good things that can be said about her? She has one of the highest voting reccords of any currently sitting MP and she work to prevent the construction of one of the new Titan Prisons about 2 miles from my front door. The bad things? Other than a couple of votes on issues that strongly effect the area (she prison above) she has pretty much been a yes-man and does what the whips tell her to do.

She also managed to be one of the 150 most expensive MPs in the expenses scandal. FFS Warrington is VERY well conected with transport links to London. In fact it is one of the main transport hubs in the country. You can be in any major urban zone in less than 6 hours. The Virgin Pende-whatsit gets you to London in less than 2 hours and costs £50-£60 return FFS. Oh. And she also employs her husband as an office manager and justifies it with "With his experience and qualifications he could get a much better paying job in the private sector". Well get him a better paying job in the private sector. That way his taxable income will be more and it will be REAL traxable income rather than HMG getting a (possibly 40%) rebate.
I'm not always this cynical. I am usually worse...

If you 'll forgive me for using this quote
"Labour must think that the seat is so safe they can just parachute any chimp in and they'll still win."

I come from a constituency near Wigan, ever since there has been a Labour Party it has returned a Labour MP.
The old saying was that if Labour put up a Pig it would be voted in and that was from life long Labour supporters.
Forgive them for they know no better.
    Thick as FCUKing Pig Sh1t.
    Onest.

Well to be fair, if they are thick as pigsh1t, then so are the people of, say, Henley who do exactly the same for the Tories.

Moved down into the Highlands at the back end of last year. It's strange to go from knowing both MP and MSP personally and being able to chat to them about any issue even if just bump into them in street.

Now don't even know who my MP or MSP is or even what party they are!

Do feel that where I was before it was very much about the man not the party, exactly like Charm City said.

Labour or Conservative and Unionist, they don't appear much different.
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up,

As true today as in 1320.

And now he's paying 50% tax
Which, the last I heard, he's witholding in protest:

I may be being very naive about this, but my thoughts are that he would be fully supportive of those on higher incomes contributing more in Income Tax.

Billy Bragg is such a gold-plated 'mong' that I'm surprised the oaf Brown has not invited him to join the Government - after all twerps such as Sugar, assorted chums and cronies and Mr. West have been invited.

He's not quite gold plated enough of a mong to want to get into bed with Broon, as far as I'm aware.

Exactly - when a constituent can send a message to their local MP because they happen to meet the MP's mother in the local shops, that's worth having.

Our MP will never bestride the world stage (he's a Lib Dem FFS) but he will make sure, as far as he can, that he represents the interests and views of this electorate in Westminster, because he's from here and when it's all over he'll have to live here. Does help that his grandfather was the MP for the same area. And the only reason his father wasn't MP was because he sat in the Lords. Feudal? Parochial? Maybe - but rather John Thurso than some bright wee former researcher/academic/ministerial catamite imposed upon us by a party machine. And that's why this constituency is anything but marginal.

Such practices aren't just confined to Labour - there have been quite a few local Tory branches that have been up in arms about Central Office parachuting in prefered candidates at the expense of locals. The Lib Dems seem to be best at providing local seats for local people - largely because they often have to cast around for any fcuker they can find.
I know that Labour aren't on their own in parachuting people into seats for different reasons. Just p1sses me off that this woman was selected through the Labour policy of all women shortlists Labours own webpage and dropped in. The party of equal rights for all, and yet again Labour showing that they think some people are more equal than others.

Like I said before, hopefully she'll get kicked into touch.
WE have got rid of the horrific Jane Kennedy (jumping to avoid being pushed ) and have been given "Luciana Berger". Whilst I would undoubtably rattle her bones for a well spent thirty seconds, the fact that she has not yet visited Liverpoool is not helping her much.
