Dont forget Gibraltar, the Isle of Wight, Anglesey, Rockall, the Hebrides, Shetland & the Orkneys. Brown would give them all away if he thought it would keep him in power a bit longer!!

    LINKY to Times Article.

LINKY to requirement for Falklands last time.

    Summary 1982:

    2 carriers
    23 destroyers/ frigates
    6 subs
    13 other ships
    22 RFA vessels
    171 Sea Harriers/ helicopters

    What we have now/ planned:

    2 carriers
    3 amphibious ships
    2 subs total
    12 destroyers/ frigates (only 7 in service)
    16 RFA vessels

Also nothing in the foreword of the Defence Green Paper; they are at 1.2 of the Green:
The Government must ensure the territorial defence of the United Kingdom and our Overseas Territories; ensure our citizens can go about their business without fear; and contribute to our resilience against the range of natural and man-made challenges.
ANd a few other bit points later on.

    Re: Overseas Territories

'Opeless Bob has nmade it quite clear in the Commons and in subsequent interviews - in the future the UK will not be able to take unilateral military action. In his mind (if that is not too much of an exageration) that means we can go so much further than just collaberating with our allies, we can decide which military capabilities we can dispense with and utilise others' because they can provide it cheaper/better.

I'm not quite sure what capabilities he has lined up, Do we dispense with our own armour because the Germans have better tanks, catering because the french and Italians do it so much better, Gunners because we hate our own?

We've seen how long it takes to pull our own forces together - the Chiefs have admitted that we really needed 6 months for Iraq. How long would it take to pull together all our allies for any expeditionary op? The training burden to iron out all the inter-operability issues will be enormous - this really is fantasy world politics.
Officially classed as a Bigot by The Party - and proud of it!

2 be fair argentina's in even worse case and we have an airbase with some typhoons on which sort of makes a sneak attack rather beyond the ability of the corned beef eating ones
On a Hot morning in cyprus I found the meaning of anger. Fortunataly I was comftably numb.
The RSM and various other NCO's seemed very agitated.
maybe they should look into counselling?
