Miep also went round to the Gestapo headquarters after the Franks had been arrested and gave them rock all! Quite some woman really.

Bit of a boring read though

We should remember the tremendous contribution of the Queen Mother to the war effort:
As the BBC pointed out, she 'bravely remained in London beside her husband' during the war.
This contrasts sharply with the actions of my grandfather who, on the declaration of war immediately left his wife and children and pissed off, first to France, then North Africa, Italy, France (again) and finally Germany.
The shame will always be with us.

She went on the record stating that she was not a "hero" - she was simply doing her duty as a human being. After all, she said, heroes are rare, and it should not take heroes to do what any normal person should do.

Granted, Gies was a modest woman, but her statement deserves wide dissemination.

BTW, for those with sprogs, the Ann Frank Museum is definitely recommended.

Aye and the ending's a bit shit too. She could have worked on that a bit more, maybe left scope for a sequel.

I read somewhere her biggest regret was giving in to teenager pester power and getting Anne and her brother that drum kit they always wanted.

    Agreed, well worth a visit.

Think all kids should visit here, somewhere like Sachsenhausen or Auschwitz, and do a battlefield tour in France/Belgium too.
