Why on Earth would Syria put itself in the firing line for Iran?!
I was under the belief that Syria and Iran were quite close bed fellows both ideologically and politically, if not then my mistake.
They are but whilst Iran likes to spit its dummy out and wail, Syria likes to take a more subtle approach...assassination and extra curricular activity in Lebanon and other places.
There is a God and he looked down on the Earth and said "Let there be Liberal Democrats in the Government" and it came to pass that the disciple Dave brought Nick back from the wilderness and there was much partying.

Israel is the one to watch, whereas Iran is predictable, they hate the west, its the usual when not why. Israel will cause more damage and spread the problem, whereas Iran (very muchy like Iraq Pre 2001) was contained

It may just have been a unit of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard, who got lost on the Yadavaran oil field development and crossed the border inadvertantly on their way to become casualties in the landmine clearance programme there. Alternatively they might just have been in hot pursuit of a particularly good looking camel. Anyway, its about time there was a regime change in Iran, the current rulers are an affront to civilisation. Oops, just my opinion, but one that is shared by many of the Iranian - they prefer to be called Persian - people that I met there.

"President Ahmadinejad openly claims that the aim of his government's actions is to hasten the coming of the Mahdi"

Great. Just blooooody great. It's nearly 2010, and yet we still have a Government, a Nation state, that genuinely believes in imaginary sky dwelling dieties, and formulate policies to hasten their arrival.

I say nuke the tw@ts and perhaps they can meet the Mahdi sooner than they expected. Smiles all round!

I wonder what would happen if those 11 troops were to be 'captured for straying into sovereign soil', stripped of their uniforms and ipods, given naff suits and then given back to Iran as a 'goodwill gesture'...

Give over, do. There are Christ knows how many millions of Catholics world wide who believe that a bird called Mary, who was married to a bloke called Josef, but who was a virgin (come on, those ayrab type blokes blokes marry girls of 11 and 12 and the middle eastern hospitals routinely provide surgery for little girls who have been damaged by their "husbands") and who was impregnated by the Holy Spirit (Ghost) and suddenly gave birth to a baby in a stable.....

    Oh and Merry Christmas!

Re: Iran - The end draws near?

The question has to be what will Iraq/US/UN etc do about it probably issue some harsh words - yep that'll stop them.

Reminds me of the Team America sketch with Hans Blix, just change the names.

I'm in no hurry to experience another expences paid trip to the ME but where does it stop? Armamdinnerjad needs a war to prop up his regime and therefore goads the Iraqis now that their armed forces are weak. Does he forget GW1?

    The blokes a fucking loon.
