Re: MoD inquiry after laptop stolen from headquarters
After six there is no security at main building anyway, anyone couldve walked in, it will probably turn out that the laptop was issued to a civvy who will claim that nobody explained about security, so its not their fault, and if you carry on being nasty to me i will get the unions in.End result another compensation award and promotion for another incompetent cnut.
Alternatively it may just be a disgruntled 2 star.STAY ALERT! They walk among us... and the scary part is that they VOTE and they REPRODUCE !

Some very interesting and valid points raised here, some I admit to not even thinking about.
The words 'horse, doors, stable, closing, has, the, bolted and after the' spring to mind...ok, crawl to the front. The harder the fighting and the longer the war, the more the infantry and in fact all the arms, lean on the Gunners - Field Marshal Montgomery.

Welcome to the exciting world of IT security
Or as a view from someone who deals with it day after day, Welcome to the exciting world of hitting your head against a wall for no purpose until it all goes pear shaped and everyone suddenly wants to know what YOU are going to do about it.
Bitter, twisted and cynical me..........Nah!

Re: MoD inquiry after laptop stolen from headquarters
OOOOOOhhhhhh FFS, here we go again.
Rightho peeps - listen in - what I am about to tell you will save you hassle later.
Get out all of your assett registers and conduct a 100% check now, slap a no movement with portable media ban on now and revoke all previous permissions in order to make everyone with a variance do it all again. Also, make sure you change the form so they can't just print out the previous one.
Kneejerk reaction will commence in hours from now so you might as well start doing it.
I am not going to ask when people will learn - because they simply won't.
We need to wise up here and do it now.
The greatest single threat to the stability of this nation is the execution of idelogy against the nation state through the electronic spectrum. We are all so comfortable using the internet with a large percentage of users having little to no idea how vulnerable they are in their day to day lives that this unconcious incompetence automatically transfers into the workplace. The MoD does not sit alone in this.
Online press and click awareness courses such as the recent PIC are not going to do it - we need to actively demonstrate to ourselves the greatest weakness in the security chain of these devices - the soft, squishy thing that pushes the keys - needs to be educated to look after them properly. We cannot afford to keep losing these devices.
Rant over....... and breatheThis is the voice of the Mysterons.............

Re: MoD inquiry after laptop stolen from headquarters
So they've got a laptop and the token, but they haven't got the login details have they? Surely someone wouldn't keep the laptop, token and login details together!?
The token will only work if you have the username/password yuss? (guess who forgot to put his token in this morning)

They can normally be found on a post it note under the keyboard, tucked in the top of a desk drawer, written on a monitor...........Sorry the little edge of bitter cynicism showing through again.
