No bonus, no pay rise, bonus for the Treasury, another 'bonus' scheme tackled, bonus brownie points for the Government.

About 50-65% of them the same as every other project team under the current rules.

Oil Slick - do you think that hot on the heels of the PMs pronouncement, someone might like to point out that he was the man responsible for the introduction of the bonus scheme in the first place?

I'd suggest standing outside Number 10 and see> Brown was behind the scheme when he was in Number 11.

Well, he'll just spin it along the lines of …'I brought in this system to bring cost savings and efficiency to the CS but greedy CS abused the system to line their pockets'

Rather like the way he's spun away the rather embarrasing fact that it was him who set in train the Banking fiasco with his new rules when he was Chancellor.

Government by media - must be close to the end of the current regime.

PS Think Alan Johnstone has been incorrectly briefed on bonuses - he is referring, in his statement, to the op allowance that deployed CS receive, nothing to do with the performance bonus that this issue is about.

This came in the mid 90's - I was then Camp Comdt, Main Bldg MOD. Have written a letter today to the D. Telegraph on my thoughts of it at the time. It was very devisive when first introduced.

Well, angry as I am about how this nonsense has been reported, I have to admit that the Opposition have pulled a blinder here. The entire media is singing their tune, building their image of a fat MoD that needs cutting by one third.

And as usual the Press Office has been entirely flat footed, allowing Ministers to spout drivel about operational allowances and Gordon Brown saying that he will look at the 'problem' that he himself introduced as Chancellor!

Yes, Gordon can now give us no pay rises, stop our 'greedy' bonuses to the rapturous cheers of the baying mob then proceed to give 25% of the 'bloated' CS the boot to further rapturous cheers as he announces that the 'savings' will be passed on to 'the lads and lasses on the front line' while pocketing the difference for a tax cut or two.

…all nicely timed for a PR bump for the forthcoming General Election.
