I find it bizzare that most of them feel the need to slap double mags on there weapon.

I mean in reality, when the feck are they ever going to have the need for that FFS?

I can’t help but be a little disappointed that it has come to this.

The Police have been steadily using force since 1997. Whilst some of this is a reaction to increasing gun and violent crime – I don’t accept that many Police Officers regularly encounter or deal with such situations – even in gun crime hotspots-, showing that they do not need to carry lethal force. It would be interesting to see the Police records as to how many average plods have ever needed to use lethal force.

I would also question the effectiveness of such a measure. What rules of engagement are they going to use? If they see an armed man are they going to be allowed to shoot? The logic of this decision (if we accept the Police case) is fairly clear ‘If that's where the gun crime is then that's where the armed officers should be.’ However, the idea of Police walking around waving guns is threatening and hinders wider police goals of being approachable.

In the article it says they are equipped with MP5s "capable of 800 rounds a minute"

I thought the police weapons were all modified to be single shot only?

The problem of turf violence between drugs gangs was highlighted earlier this month with a spate of shootings in north London linked to two Turkish gangs, the Tottenham Boys and the Bombacilar
Plod set up armed VCPs in N London due to the above, for the last couple of weeks, due to a Diyerbakir unload with an Uzi in a 'coffee shop' recently.

    Armed plod on motorbikes....WTF....

how long will it take the crims to work out that if they smash their stolen 4x4s into said motorbikes then they can increase their arms & ammo stash!

If that statement is correct, then it makes my earlier comment even more relevant!!

Why the feck would you need double mags on a weapon, especially is its modified to fire single shot only!!

Dissapointment is not a word I'd use, if this Government stuck to its so called lame policies about tough on crime then armed gangs in certain % of city estates would'nt have the freedom they have at present
    Society has been let down

TBH, it's not much of a step up from the ARVs, which came in around 1991. As far as I recall, they started as a basic jam-sandwich crewed by three SO19 erks with two MP5s (single-shot only) and three Glocks. Not much seems to have changed since.
ROEs include a stipulation that an inspector or above had to sanction drawing of weapons, unless in imminent danger.
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it a bit. Then have another look...

Gosh, this could be fun lots of "contacts" as the NDs wing there way into the shop fronts, we all know Police with fast cars are iffy but with guns as well thats really going to cull the natives.
