Re: A Question of Question Time
Just me being trying to be funny I suppose and failing dismally. Seemed to spend more time cleaning my SLR than using it, maybe that clouded my thinking.

Being sniffy and pious wont resolve the underlying perceptions & issues that have drawn people, rightly or wrongly, to the BNP.
I applaud Jack Straw for agreeing to debate. There was a suggestion that Griffin woudl not have shared a paltform with Diane Abbott - I suspect he would because she'd be easy to beat. The woman is, like Hain, a complete lightweight. Jack Straw isn't.

Re: A Question of Question Time
The BNP is a political party whether one likes it or not. therefore they have every right to be heard. This country is, after all, a democracy and everyone is entitled to their soapbox. If we can allow Muslim extremists to parade in the streets of London calling for the death of British service personnel and those who don't believe in Islam, then we can certainly allow a politician to be given a platform also.
Nick Griffin is no fool. He's been given a massive (and probably the only one he'll ever get) opportunity to put his case across to millions of viewers. If he cocks it up tonight, that's it. He'll be ridiculed in front of the entire nation, and the BNP will be written off forever. So expect a very carefully worded response from this man. He's an ex-Oxford graduate and probably used to plenty of debates at the Oxford Union, where they really put you through your paces, so he'll be ready. Immigration is a sensitive issue these days, and Griffin will exploit it to the max. If things go well for him, he'll reignite the immigration debate with gusto, and make New Labour look very foolish indeed.
I truly hope that the audience keep their emotions in check, and allow the debate to flow. It'll be interesting to watch, that's for sure.

Would you applaud him for this??? http://bastardoldholborn.blogspot.co...vious-and.html Seems we have more to fear from those in power than ranting idiots.

Is there a single virtue now remaining amongst you?
Is there one vice you do not possess? Ye have no more religion than my horse; gold is your God; which of you have not barter’d your conscience for bribes?
Is there a man amongst you that has the least care for the good of the Commonwealth?
Ye sordid prostitutes have you not defil’d this sacred place, and turn’d the Lord’s temple into a den of thieves, by your immoral principles and wicked practices? Ye are grown intolerably odious to the whole nation; you were deputed here by the people to get grievances redress’d, are yourselves gone!
So! Take away that shining bauble there, and lock up the doors. In the name of God, go!

Re: A Question of Question Time
I would put a link up to where their policies are but that would then get this thread binned faster than normal.

But thats my point. All this "we must suppress" business isn't good for harmony. As has already been stated, when an Islamic extremist can walk down the streets shouting "death to infidels" etc, then why can't the opposite view be heard. Afterall, everyone has an opinion on immigration and NG is exploiting it - right or wrong. How can we expect the masses to make informed decisions when everything is driven underground?

Re: A Question of Question Time
There's been some interesting points raised on here but really this is more about the mechanics of QT than the content. Is this edition going to descend into a slanging match or will it be the platform for constructive, if heated, debate?
'The honesty and bravery of our fighting forces stands in stark contrast to the weasel words and dishonesty of their political masters'. Liam Fox Now with 'added irony'!

Re: A Question of Question Time
I don't think Griffin will get a word out
He will be booed and shouted down the minute they go to himWe should remember the tremendous contribution of the Queen Mother to the war effort:
As the BBC pointed out, she 'bravely remained in London beside her husband' during the war.
This contrasts sharply with the actions of my grandfather who, on the declaration of war immediately left his wife and children and pissed off, first to France, then North Africa, Italy, France (again) and finally Germany.
The shame will always be with us.

Re: A Question of Question Time
Can't we just wait to see what he has to say? Undoubtedly he'll be hounded down and I suspect when pressured (if the audience has the nouse) on any other policy other than immigration, he'll be totally embarrassed - the BNP has no other policies ffs! Bring on intelligent questions as, despite the fact that Griffin is an 'intelligent man', his party has no real substance (did anybody see his response to the 'Generals' jibe as 'black humour' - he was lost!. He will be hoist by his own petard here!
Hain's accusation that the BNP are an 'illegal party' just further shows his own party's lack of touch.
It does reflect, however, the growing discontent among Brits and the current trend of 'just let em in'. Is there a solution?
This is reminiscent of the police allowing suspects their 'air time' to appeal for the victim - and then to be caught out. Griffin will lose much more than he hopes to gain by his appearance tonight provided he isn't given the platform of silence provided by some morons in the audience - it will only give grist to his dubious mill

Re: A Question of Question Time
I agree that this will not end up being a constructive debate but a slagging/booing/hissing tennis match between the panel & the audience

Just watching the childish/imature banner holders on the media, will be interesting to see how this develops.

Re: A Question of Question Time
Look on the bright side, if Baroness Warsi speaks at any length they'll all be driven to suicide. I watched her last performance on QT and listening to her is like having needles inserted into your head.

Re: A Question of Question Time
'QT' will could have been pre-recorded this afternoon, as I understand it. If there is any chance of Public Disorder in and around the BBC TV Centre, then the whole shebang will have been relocated to a secret location, including the audience, so as has been stated yesterday by a BBC spokesperson.
I'm not sure that I want to watch it tonight, as as I usually do. If it decends into a School Yard 'Hiss, Suck Ya-boo...' then I'm off down the pub before it closes..... couldn't be arrsed....!! :PArtificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity .....
