Anyone recall the massive police effort to close down motorcycle related events for the last year or two on the basis of alleged danger to the public order or some such twaddle (when such events have been and continue to be huge gatherings, generally out of the way of "normal" citizens and with absolutely minimal problems) and yet this type of event, right in a city centre area and with very obvious high levels of antisocial behaviour goes unchecked.

Seriously though dont blame the drink, plenty of people (including myself) have consumed skinfuls of booze socially and NOT felt the need to desecrate a war memorial,or any other memorial for that matter, blame the utter cnut that did it, 'binge drinking culture' is a nice little Govt hot phrase used to describe something/place the blame on the current generaton for something (getting pissed) that has been happening for hundreds of years.

Fortunatly unlike the huge amount of respect held for the group of people the memorial is dedicated to, most people now think students are know-it all arsemunters who believe themselves to be on a higher plain then the rest of society because they 'went to uni or whatever...' when in fact as the country slips further into recession and more companies look for life experience rather than further education the more 'uni' is looked at as a massive bluff and an excuse to spend years having half-days and getting everything on a discount.

1 The University recognises that the vast majority of its students behave in a responsible manner. However, on occasions a small minority behave in ways which cause harm to the University, its students or its staff, or the public. In these cases it is the responsibility of the University to take action under its Disciplinary Regulations in order to protect the University community and the University's reputation. The paragraphs below explain why, when and how such disciplinary action might be taken and the possible sanctions.

1 The University receives complaints from the public about the behaviour of people believed to be Sheffield Hallam University students. Often, although not always, these complaints relate to behaviour as neighbours. Sometimes the subjects of the complaints are not Sheffield Hallam students and sometimes the fault lies wholly or partially with the person making the complaint rather than the student.

2 The University plays a positive role in the local community and engages with local community representatives to both explain the value of the contribution of its students and staff and to deal with any general problems that may arise.

3 Students are citizens living in the community and subject to the various statutory and other legal requirements and agencies that protect society as a whole. Nevertheless, out of a sense of responsibility and out of a concern for its reputation, the University does respond to complaints about individual students or groups of students and is willing to take action.
