Your slave ancestors were forced to build a wall to keep us out by their Roman masters (yes, it wasnt your own idea as the Engerlish like to think), now stop being silly before we decide to nip down and nick your football pitch .. again.
Our Morris dancers against your "reelers". A pigs bladder against a .....skirt? Your dancers make even Morris Dancers look macho!
As for the football pitch, see you in SA? :D
Techno T, take your thoughts a step further. If the UK is deemed by Brussels no longer to have the status of a State, because it no longer has one of a state's fundamental attributes, namely an independent foreign policy, it rather follows that what are at present thought to be the Armed Forces of the Crown are no longer that; but are maintained, pending clarification, to the order of the EU. And a common European foreign policy IS one of the results of Lisbon, and our Govt has signed up to it. All that are left to us are the functions of a gendarmerie and a coastguard. Expeditionary warfare and strategic deterrent assets necessarily default to Europe.
I love these threads, I really do. We keep coming back to the same (English) voices telling us how crap we are, how we'll never amount to anything on our own and how we'd be nothing without them. Daring us to try it, 'coz we'll be sorry.
I can only imagine they're too scared to beat the wife, so they try to work out their life's frustrations by jock-bashing on the internet instead. Exactly the same phrasing, exactly the same arguments, exactly the same attitude.
Face it, folks, the Empire is gone and you're not in charge anymore. You can't keep pretending for ever.
We need people who look to the stars, holding the nation and the world in their hearts but at the same time we need down-to-earth people who can do serious and trying work.
In a definite sense, a country's power and prestige isn't only a reflection of its economic power but also a reflection of its people's quality and morality. Moreover, I think the latter is actually more important in the long-term.
We should give them independence, then just find an excuse to invade them and make them our subjects; removing any rights that they had before they started gobbing off. Sweet.

The Roman Legionaries built the wall... twice. NOt to mention all the Glen Blocker Forts along the Grampians... and a fort in what is now Dundee.
Many of the Wall Legions were Spanish and German.... The British were sent else where.
Worth pointing out also that the wall was not built to keep the Picts and what not out of the Roman areas.... that is what the Glen Blockers were for. The wall was actually a linear fort, that went through Northumbria, to prevent cattle rustleing and what not. The area that is now Scotland, simpley wasn't that important in those days.
Northumbria at one point stretched in to Edinburgh. And of course we only became ENGLAND (not Engerland or however else you want to pronounce it to make yourself look like a cnut) after the Angles arrived in the 5 and 6th Centuries.
And of course, you Scots (or Scotii) were still mainly in Ireland after sailing around the North of Alba (now Scotland) from
Yep, you stole a football pitch... well done. Nothing against the centuries of thrall us English have held you Scots in is it :D
Anyway, off you pop, time for your daily Braveheart fix... FREEDOM

OTT banter aside though, I think there is a case to be made that the best time to quit the UK has gone:

Come on smartas, the last time the Scots attempted a venture ont heir own was the Darien Venture in South America.... not exactly a result was it?
And even then, apparently it was all the b4stard English fault that the idea to land in a malaria ridden swamp to set up a new colony, to act as a continental crossing point (a la Panama Canal) with nought but combs, wigs and mirrors for the largely naked natives.....
Good idea, mind. Just poorly executed.
And of course caused a massive debt to be created in Scotland that Westminster was asked to 'wipe clean' which of course led to the Act of Union.
Imagine a Scottish leader bring a country to its economic knees in this day and age? Just couldn't happen could it.
Always amazes me , we are constantly told we are scrounging Scots subsidised by the rest of UK ... but as soon as the question of Independence arises it's Oh no we couldn't have that ... or the usual Scotland couldn't survive without us ... ABSOLUTE BOLLOX gentleman !!
Scots pay taxes as well as the rest of UK, said taxes are used to pay for the military hardware therefore part of it belongs to us !! Divvying it up could be interesting though.
If we are such a burden then why not cut your losses and get out ? Because the truth is England have been bleeding us dry for 350 years. Anyone who doubts that should read the McCrone report it's there in black and white !! We didn't ask to be part of UK ... remember ?
English bases in Scotland ..no thanks we'll manage quite well without thank you very much !
Ok they want 1/12th of the UK defence, quite welcome to that liability at the moment......can't imagine the Jocks wanting to get their hands in their pockets!!!!.
All this has given me a new idea for a business venture, activity holidays rebuilding the WALL

The English were the other side of the Rhine when that wall was built, you bagpipe throwing, caber wearing, skirt playing, ginger barbarian.
We didn't come to give you natives a damn good shoeing until 300 years later.
