Re: Gen Dannatt
Why oh why do the Labour Party always embroil themselves in these petty little snipes and witch hunts.
He's gone, he's no longer the CGS and you made sure he was not CDS so why not just revel in that? You could even cite his 'political' agenda as the reason for not giving him the top job but oh no, that's not good enough for petty, vindictive Labour they have to try to destroy, have they any idea how distasteful this is to the general populace? Do they care?'The honesty and bravery of our fighting forces stands in stark contrast to the weasel words and dishonesty of their political masters'. Liam Fox Now with 'added irony'!

Re: Gen Dannatt
Whatever the truth and morality of all this is, its only an announcement by the Conservatives, and he has not been ennobled as yet. Its not like he is taking a salary from the Opposition yet. If he chooses to advise the Conservatives shadow Defence team, he will not necessarily take remuneration from it.
I would rather that they took advice from Dannatt, than say Eric Joyce.

Re: Gen Dannatt
Er no. Disagreement was one thing, several who had some balls did. Being involved / or not in a plot to kill him was a different matter.Thing is though, it,s similar to what Hitler did to his Generals when he thought they disagreed with him, tried them in The Peoples Court, then strung them up from Meat Hooks,
Or when Air Marshal Garden took the Lib Dem whip. This is just New Labour spin, fcuk all was said when Lord West did the same thing to the Labour Shite a few years ago
The Telegraph today reminds us that Field Marshal Kitchener was SoS for War back in the day. The Labour outrage bus has several flat tyres.

Re: Gen Dannatt
My point was that some people who spoke out had interests in their own units/regiments/corps to act in their favour, however GD spoke out on behalf of the entire Army (and other services indirectly). A selfless act that is going to be punished.

Re: Gen Dannatt
On the plus side Frank Dobson is probably the only man that Brown and Mandleson hate more than Dannatt right now anyway
At least he's (Dannatt) qualified look at the dross Browns given peerages to and installed in Goverment
Although the clock is ticking on Mandleson one Blair becomes El Presidente he'll summon his Lord Vader to the Death Star near BrusselsWe should remember the tremendous contribution of the Queen Mother to the war effort:
As the BBC pointed out, she 'bravely remained in London beside her husband' during the war.
This contrasts sharply with the actions of my grandfather who, on the declaration of war immediately left his wife and children and pissed off, first to France, then North Africa, Italy, France (again) and finally Germany.
The shame will always be with us.
