    BBC News (Ceefax):

Expense mole “fury over Army kit”

The expenses scandal began because the mole who caused the leak was angry about inadequate equipment for the armed forces, the Daily Telegraph said.
The newspaper says staff who worked in secrecy on MPs’ receipts were guarded by servicemen on leave between tours.,
They became angry after seeing MPs’ lavish claims when soldiers had poor equipment, prompting a civil servant to leak the story, the paper says.
But Gordon Brown said he did not understand the motivation for the leak.

So both servicemen and CS's had something to do with it. Must admit that I hadn't heard of "on leave" servicemen "guarding" MPs' clerks but clearly some protection is needed. The public might find out information (a kind of freedom of information).

They just went without, earlier on. Have you seen how much it costs?

Brown's hatred of the Armed Forces and his attempts to ruin us have certainly come back and bit him and his cronies on the arrse. The trouble is that this spiteful, bullying and vindictive b'stard has until May 2010 to take his revenge.

No doubt Worthless will be ordered to find out who the moonlighting soldiery were with a view to meteing out severe punishment - which will all go horribly wrong and after that is whistle blown there will be denials all round.

I'm not a journo, or a leaker. Just saw the news last night - got mixed up with this story from the time in thinking the details were directly leaked by one of the soldiers:

If only I had £300k kicking around, presumably tax free.

Of course he hasn't clue what is going on around him but he has a certain low cunning which combined with large ego, stupidity and vindictiveness mean he is still dangerous.

Brown will see that the army has done more damage to him.

Just as strange, I'm in agreement too!
With one proviso, I don't care what motive the whistleblower had, he did the public a service.
