Re: How Labour plotted to smear daughter of new army chief..
Hey Ashie, how do you feel about Gordon Brown taking you into the next election? Still think he is the best man for the job? Or do you think it is damage limitation time?
Honest answers only, please!!
The justice secretary, Jack Straw, today became the latest cabinet minister to shore up Gordon Brown's premiership, insisting that he was the "best man for the job".
Straw has been cited as one of the senior Labour figures who could be called upon to tell the prime minister that it was time to step down for the good of the party.
But he said today: "I'm absolutely convinced that Gordon Brown is the very best person to lead the Labour party and the government through these difficulties and beyond."
Straw, who has also been tipped as a potential successor to the prime minister, pointed out that he led Brown's Labour leadership campaign last year.
"Nothing that has happened has changed my view that he is the best man for the job," he said.
I would argue that he is the worst man for the job by far, but I can only give you an objective view...........................

What has she done wrong actually? She is not a legtimate political target, she is a very junior employee.
Hope she takes it to an employment tribunal and then we might see the matter out in the open...
That bit made no sense to me whatsoever.
Perhaps assuming that she will also be treated improperly in some way.
She works for David Cameron the Conservative leader. So how would a Labour smear campaign fall under employment law? I don't see it. Why would she have to have done something wrong to get subjected to a smear campaign? If she was guilty of something it wouldn't be a smear to bring that to light. It would be classed as "getting caught".
Whatever law it may or may not fall under, it would be a despicable act if Labour were investigating the 'Army Chief's' daughter for some cheap political points.
Ashie? No reply?
Absolutely, but not surprising. See how low our opinion of the government has fallen? We actually think that this is likely now. Brown's only achievement is to make Blair look like a good PM in comparison.
Why do you want Ashie to reply? You know he wont give an honest answer. Just like Brown really. :(
I have no interest in answering personal attacks, having been warned by the mods for doing so in the past. I will just repeat that not one jot of evidence has been produced for The Mail's story. Nada. Zip. Nowt.
The Mail should produce the evidence. Surely it can, can't it?
Were it true, would you condemn it as despicable Ashie? Are you prepared to consider there might be an element of truth behind the story?
Not a personal attack, but I am intrigued as to where Liebour's morality ends.

Maybe it should. Perhaps it would compromise its sources. I don't know. It is a bloody sad state of affairs when most people think that the Mail is probably correct when the accusation is so terrible.
Be carefull what you ask for Ashie. You might just get it. Like the porn expenses and MP's expenses in general, the No 10 smear campaign. You denied all those and more, then the evidence turned up.
Before you accuse me of being a Tory, I have voted Labour in the past, almost all my imediate family have been staunch Labour voters. This government disgusts me. The reason for that Ashie is because of the way they have behaved, it is nothing to do with what any other party has said but the actions of Labour.
As for the personal attack, I will try to refrain from now on. But I believe that what I said is justified. Here is a simple question. What is your opinion on smearing oponents with inacurate accusations?

Oh dear. There was, of course, no No10 smear campaign. There was one misguided employee. The Mail had to pay out a hefty libel bill on that one. The expenses brouhaha was equally shared between all parties.
I have said before that I am no fan of the Tory-lite New Labour. That you and the others choose not to believe that is....well...what I've come to expect from ARRSE. Evidence just doesn't seem to come into it.

Of course McBride wasnt instructed to create a smear campaign by Brown, and the moon is made of cheese Ashie! If Brown says he didnt do it or know about it, its a certainty that he did. The guy doesnt know when to stop lying.

I won't repeat my New Liar Bore pet name for you bob, because the mods would accuse me of somehow getting personal if I did.
QRU.
(Take 2) Were the story true, would you condemn it as despicable Ashie? Are you prepared to consider there might be an element of truth behind the story?

I don't think here's any truth behind the story. I don't think there was a plot. Even The Mail story doesn't attempt to back up its headline. To whit:
Headline: How Labour plotted to smear daughter of new army chief
First Para: A Labour plot to smear the new head of the Army.....
2nd Para: The threat to target the General......
And then the whole story just falls apart in Para 4:
And The Mail on Sunday has established that Mr Joyce was also disturbed to hear Labour colleagues discuss Sir David’s 25-year-old daughter
Got that? Just "discussing her". No plot. No plan. So someone saying that they heard his daughter worked for the Tories becomes:
How Labour plotted to smear daughter of new army chief
Classic Mail smear tactics. And you've all swallowed the bait.

You can't be serious surely. Yes, you have said that you are no fan but have then gone on to defend them almost every time you post. I would consider that as evidence. "By their acts shall you know them".
