Good skills and glad he's safe but a clear warning about the dangers of strolling around certain places on ones lonesome.

Why did I read that as "Pte Bloggs slipped out of camp for a night, and realised he had missed a parade/been caught out of bounds/been involved in a scrap. Using good military initiative, he made up a plausible (but ultimately unverifiable) load of tosh to bluff his way out of it"

    Well played young man!
A war hasn't been fought this badly since Olaf the Hairy, High Chief of all the Vikings, accidentally ordered 80,000 battle helmets with the horns on the inside.

Didn't the Yanks have a couple killedin Kuwait City in the late '90's
I'm sure that was the reason they weren't allowed of Camp Doha
We should remember the tremendous contribution of the Queen Mother to the war effort:
As the BBC pointed out, she 'bravely remained in London beside her husband' during the war.
This contrasts sharply with the actions of my grandfather who, on the declaration of war immediately left his wife and children and pissed off, first to France, then North Africa, Italy, France (again) and finally Germany.
The shame will always be with us.

I think we can expect more of this in ME countries that would not have been previously perceived as dangerous. Nice one squaddie for staying cool and using the head

Strong work. Knowing my luck I would have landed badly, snapped a leg and then been hit by a Al Jazeera news lorry...

........maybe because you are a cynical old git
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, camel blue in one hand, wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming WOW!!! WHAT A RIDE !!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah right! I knew of a Jolly Jack who was adrift from H.M.S Penelope many years ago in the Med, we brought him off shore after he had been gone over his liberty, the Jack was a mess, covered in blood and vomit, got aboard and a Chief Buffer copped him, "Adrift, First Lts. defaulters in the mornin.," "I was kidernapperd Chief, straight up". "Bollox, stating a falsehood as well, get forrard." LMFAO, True. :D :D :D :D :D
Everyone deserves a second chance, except those who try to shaft me and fail.

We are the Pilgrims, Master, we shall go always a little further,

It may be beyond the Blue mountain barred with snow,

Across that Angry or Glittering Sea.
