No, in truth, there must be well over 1,000 Men in the BG, and this chap is certainly an Officer, but equally certainly not a WG Officer.
Intersting article, mind you, and something that suits the Indy down to the ground.

Are you for real or do you really not understand what is going on in Afghanistan?
He is describing what is going on over there and the fact that the situation is difficult to deal with, its irrelevant what rank/position you hold, loss and injuries are difficult to cope with.
Have you been? Are you still even serving? Are you mental?
Re: anonymous Welsh Guards captain in paper today?
Wow! Huge amounts of 'bottle' required to write that and even more 'bottle' required to soldier in Afghanistan.
I salute, without reservation, every member of Her Majesty's Armed Forces serving in, or having served in, Afghanistan - whatever their rank or appointment.
I despise with every ounce of my wit the disgusting politician who sent them on this ill-conceived and ill-judged and wholly reckless misadventure. I reserve some loathing for the mindless twerps, currently in power, who refuse to fund this war adequately and who continue, from the safety of their offices, to preach about its justness and importance.
History will truly judge Blair and his hapless successor. Their descendants will live in shame when they become appraised of the truth of these two awful men and their errors of judgement and personal vanities.
