Matter of different generation different mores - perhaps.

Why? Well, officers of my generation wouldn't have dreamed of writing to the press on such matters - although they would have discussed the situation among themselves they would not have discussed it with their subordinates either.
Old fashioned? Perhaps, though that was the style in those far off days.
I'm not condemning the anonymous officer though wonder if his actions received the same approbation from the (serving) Officer Corps as they have by the majority of members posting on this thread?

I don't believe you have ever served in the British Army. The British soldiers I know (and I have met one or two over the years) far prefer to moan and bitch in the face of adversity.

Different generation, different mores certainly applies with regard to the modern political classes....the Armed Forces traditions of trust, loyalty, selflessness and duty have been thorougly and utterly abused time and time again over the last decade.

As it stands I have a lack of radios, water, food and medical equipment. This with manpower is what these missions lack. It is disgraceful to send a platoon into a very dangerous area with two weeks' water and food and one team medics pack. Injuries will be sustained which I will not be able to treat and deaths could occur which could have been stopped. We are walking on a tightrope and from what it seems here are likely to fall unless drastic measures are undertaken.

Re: anonymous Welsh Guards captain in paper today?
Did it occur to anyone that perhaps it wasn't an officer from the WG's BG that wrote the article? Or any BattleGroup for that matter. . .
Just a thought.

In my bleaker moments it has occurred to me that it might be one of Richard Dannats PR things.

Aye Heidthebaw - that's why I posed the question to serving officers in my previous post!

Fair enough - the opposition love nothing more than repeatedly bashing the present government over the head with the Afghan stick; and quite rightly too - but I'm not exactly convinced over their deep-seated motivation for doing so.

It was a serving Officer of WG BG. He is, suddenly, no longer in theatre.

So what? Do you have a point to make regarding the OP or the topic of the thread in general?
