The mind boggles. What's to stop an olympic also-ran asking to be upgraded to the gold medal position cos he's now castrated & his time/distance beat the holder in his chosen field?

Thanks, I hadn't realised that the national average was so high nor indeed the Army average but what you say makes sense, for male to female anyway and I'm sure the robustness of Army life attracts the female to male on its own merits. You seem well adjusted and well balanced so this has obviously been a huge success for you, if you were less well adjusted I can't really see that new medals would count for much unless you were just looking for a principle to make a stand about. Were I you, I should imagine that the chance to lead a normal life in a body I felt comfortable in would be worth more than all the medals put together.

I've managed to get hold of a draft picture of the new sex-change medal

It's a standard medal with the standard sex-change riibbon, however it comes (Not anymore) with a clasp of your area of operations (Where you used to cruise)

Actually that was only awarded to those very few members of the Household Cavalry who didn't sell their bodies to 'kind' men.

How can they give Transgendered soldiers who are now female new medal's for which they had to be a male to be in a particular Regiment?

I think you'd have to want that medal pretty bad to go through a transgender procedure (or whatever its called) just to win at the 100m.

Not to mention all the other safeguards in place, such as living as a woman for one year, shrink meetings, etc, etc.

It is something that may need to be addessed in the future though, but it may not neccesarily follow that an ex-man has the advantage. Synchronised swimming I believe, is one sport where being a bloke makes it harder.

And there could be issues with all the hormones and that.

I may not be fully up on the whole thing but I do know it isn't just a chop of the meat and veg. I also doubt it is easily reversable.

As for the medal upgrades... If you didn't run in the womens 100m (ie) then you can't qualify for the race medals, even if your time in the mens 100m was faster and you have had the snip of snips.

Say again? I am not aware of ANY medal that is only open to a particular Regt or for taht matter (by extension) sex.

In the event of qual badges ie Para Wings... well they were earnt by that person in the proper manner, so they can wear them if they wish. (Or would if I had the power to say so).

Continuing in a trade that excludes the persons new sex is a bit of a tricky one.

Qualification badges won as a male may be worn after Transition to female, although to do so would be a major indicator of the wearers previous gender.

Any trade/Regt that excludes females is also closed to Male to Female TG soldiers. The soldier would be required to rebadge/retrade. Of course, if a Female to Male TG soldier wishes to join (for example) the Infantry then he may do so, subject to normal (male) physical tests.
