Re: Queen institutes Elizabeth Cross for KIAs.

Joining the thread a bit late, but would like to add my 3 cheers to Her Majesty for this excellent initiative.
I may have missed it, but is there any mention of details regarding the "presentation" of the EC to the eligible families? Family representatives invited to bolt on to the Queens Birthday/New Year Honour Ceremonies at the palace perhaps, or a local event with the Cross being presented by the Lord Lieutenant of the County or similar?
I just hope it doesn't turn up on the doorstep in a plain brown envelope, in an attempt to save a bit of money!
Hopefully with Her Majesty behind the scheme, that will not be the case.
    God Bless you, Ma'am.

Somebody who knows, please reassure me that the family of thisfallen comrade will receive one:

He was a one-off, and they deserve some small comfort.

Seven pages already, too much for me to read.
I would like to think that the Award originated from HM, She of any Head of State has the long term knowledge of the matter and is a person of the people.
However knowing the Labour scum that currently run UK I do suspect they follow Napoleon's thinking on bits of tin and ribbons.

So are you saying that if a service man or woman (being Muslim, Hindu etc) were to be awarded the Victoria Cross, they would be offended? If that is the case then it is just too bad, they came to Britain without being asked so they should accept the British way or go back where they came from.

He was deployed to Iraq at the time so I imagine his family would receive one.

I think it was mentioned on the MOD website that if the servicemans family lives abroad then it would be sent by recorded delivery, if UK based then they could have it presented at the funeral or at a private ceremony or if they wished, by post.

I hope those who have commited suicide whilst on Ops are not entitled to the same.

And yes I have thought about that comment before posting and no I'm not going to apologise for it.

From visiting the National Memorial Arboretum website:

    http://www.thenma.org.uk/content/How...ded-1405.shtml

One of my best mates, Mick, who died in 1980 in a RTA whilst deployed on a disaster relief operation in the West Indies is listed on the Roll of Honour but not on the memorial.

Another friend who committed suicide in the early 90's is not mentioned on either.

Whilst I agree with the latter, I think it unjust that Mick isn't honoured with his name on the memorial. Will this mean that his family will not be honoured even though he died working in a difficult and dangerous environment (immediatly post disaster) in the best traditions of the Armed Forces?

Years ago it was suggested that an apple a day kept the doctor away. But since all the doctors are now Muslim, I've found that a bacon sandwich works best.

I hate all this terrorist business. I used to love the days when you could look at an unattended bag on a train or bus and think to yourself; I’m having that.

Two of my colleagues, one killed in an RTA during a veh patrol and one self administered are both recorded, knowing them both as I did I am glad they are represented, I suspect that the RTA will get the cross, not sure about poor Jason though!

Re: Queen institutes Elizabeth Cross for KIAs.

I can't find the emails now but I wrote in a while back to make sure some people I knew were recorded. the response was that two who died in aircraft accidents were on the memorial but one who died of lung disease contracted during his service (and who died while serving) is only on the Roll of Honour. It must have been quite a labour to compile the lists and one can't be too surprised about the odd error or omission; it does no harm to put the record straight for people you knew personally, in my own case I thought it was just some little thing I could do for them. If you know someone who you think ought to be recorded and he isn't, I suggest you write in.

Re the Elizabeth Cross, I would think many NoK will have to apply as I would imagine many are virtually untraceable from the centre, particularly with remarriage, adoption and so on. The MoD would surely only know who was NoK at the time of loss, if that.

Thats assuming that the NoK actually are aware of this and that they are capable of doing so!
