Re: BNP Win Their First EU Seat
To respond to the general feeling of this page.
Yes, it is as much the fault of the main parties - including the Lib Dems - that to many the BNP seemed a legitimate alternative to any other party. We should have taken them head on instead of sitting back and hoping. We should have pointed out what their policies would lead to, what the end result would be. We should have pointed out the difference between what the BNP say they would do and the expectations of their supporters.
All the parties sat on their hands, all are culpable.

Oh Whet you've changed your verve
Now maybe if you started like that people would listen to you
Learn the lesson
Yes last night was a defeat for you too.
The BNP is a legitimate party and the best way of stopping them getting votes is to make your party more appealing and in touch, which it isn't.
Vince Cable though has my upmost respect as probably the most down to earth, informed and capable politician in the UK at the moment.
Now if you listen to the people instead of yourselves you never know one day you might just beat UKIP or even better.

Re: BNP Win Their First EU Seat
I disagree only a few weeks ago PTP (and friends) were telling us that anyone voting for the BNP were mouth breathing, knuckle dragging, ignorant racists. Surely he (and several members of this site) can't be wrong.

I agree, Vince Cable is perhaps the best economist in politics at this time and is doing the Lib Dems no amount of good.

Re: BNP Win Their First EU Seat
Quoted from Daniel Hannan..
He also makes the point that labours only election slogan was vote for us and not the BNP, that one worked well then. They could have said vote for us and not the 'make peadophilia legal party' and still lost votes to them.Incidentally, any BBC presenters reading this, why do you keep calling the party "far Right"? Weren't you listening to Nick Griffin's acceptance speech? He wasn't going to talk about immigration policy he said, since everyone knew where he stood on the subject. No, his priority was to expose the way in which public assets had been privatised. Look at the BNP's manifesto: it wants nationalisation, subsidy, higher taxes, protectionism and (sotto voce) the abolition of the monarchy. And look at where its votes came from. The BNP is a symptom of Labour's collapse.--

The population would decrease by about 10% and then we'd have a desperate period where people who weren't fully trained had to be found to fill in for the skilled professionals were lost. There wouldn't be a 'demand' problem. The main economic problem would be other countries refusing to trade with us because they'd think 'wow the British are cnuts'.

"I'm intrigued, how does a spoiled vote say anything other than "I was too dim to put one X in the right place". Spoiling a vote in a FPTP system does absolutely nothing."
I saw spoiled ballots that said "Fcuk the pope" and "none of you represent me" Whats the point in coming out to vote and writing a lot of rubbish, go to your elected members websites or send them a letter rather than scribbling notes down the ballot paper.
Its everyones democratic right to vote for the party of their choice, I just wish that they would look at who they are voting for and what these parties stand for. this is the UK wide choice but how much do we know about the majority of them

Businesses fail through a lack of customers or the ability to sell sufficient product at a profit to cover costs. If you take 6 million out of the country then local suppliers will lose enormous amounts of business and the treasury will miss huge amounts of revenue.

The more people you have in a community the more financially buoyant it is. In the height of a depression it is almost impossible to imagine what that would do to this country. You only have to go to Catterick to see the reverse effect and how it has helped the local economy.
Better still look at what happened in Uganda and how it's whole infrastructure was destroyed by expelling most of the professionals from the country, fortunately, Uganda's loss was our gain.

Re: BNP Win Their First EU Seat
I think some people voted BNP because they are ever so slightly miffed at at things like losing their jobs, immigration, europe etc etc and who are fed up of being called racist whenever they bring up these issues however when I said this a few weeks ago PTP and co just did the usual chant of anyone voting BNP are racist, oh what a fucking surprise the BNP win two seats in the euro elections and gained and extra 1.3% of the vote from last year. They will probably gain more in the general elections as long as people keep saying all of their supporters are racist instead of actually trying to solve their problems.

Re: BNP Win Their First EU Seat
Cameron quote from The Times"What the mainstream parties have to do is to prove their worth, get on the doorstep, explain to people how we are going to take up their concerns, how we are going to respond to their issues. That is the way to beat these dreadful people. I hope that this is the extent of what they can do and they go no further."

Re: BNP Win Their First EU Seat
I now find myself represented in the European Parliament by this piece of low life scum (aka Andrew Brons)
"Brons, 61, started his nazi career in the National Socialist Movement, an organisation that was deliberately founded on Hitler’s birthday by Colin Jordan, the British nazi leader who died in April aged 85. NSM members were responsible for an arson campaign against Jewish property and synagogues in the 1960s.
Brons appears to have approved. In a letter to Jordan’s wife, Brons reported meeting an NSM member who “mentioned such activities as bombing synagogues”. He declared: “On This subject I have a dual view, in that I realise that he is well intentioned, I feel that our public image may suffer considerable damage as a result of these activities. I am however open to correction on this point.”
He also sent Mrs Jordan money to buy a swastika badge and other Nazi material, explaining he was about the undertake a “crash programme” of publicity for the NSM in Yorkshire by deluging areas with Nazi stickers, posters and slogans.
Brons was a prominent member of the National Front, notorious for its extreme racism and violence, from its early days and was voted onto its national directorate in 1974. Later as the NF’s education officer he hosted seminars on racial nationalism and tried to give its racism a more “scientific” basis.
After the departure of John Tyndall from the NF in March 1980 Brons was promoted to NF chairman. One of his allies during this period was Richard Verrall, the author of Did Six Million Really Die?, with whom he edited the NF journal New Nation. In 1982 Brons led an NF march through Northfield on which marchers chanted: “we’ve got to get rid of the blacks”.
In June 1984 Brons was convicted of behaviour likely to cause a breach of the peace following his arrest in Leeds while selling papers in a shopping centre.
He and another NF member were heard shouting slogans such as “Death to Jews”, “White Power” and “National Front”. When approached by PC John Raj, Brons stated: “inferior beings like yourself probably do not understand the principle of free speech”.
Brons resigned as NF chairman in 1984 and later faded from public view. He has been a BNP member for around four years"

I am ashamed and embarassed that the Yorks and Humber region have returned a bigot such as this and come the next round of local elections or the general election I'll take up the challenge to beat exremists like Bron and once more get out there leafleting and campaigning again for the Labour Party. Whatever their mistakes of the recent past (and there have been plenty) Brons and his kind are not the answer, they offer no hope, they have no answers and the BNP are what they have always been - unreconstructed nazis.
