An arguement for the power of recall rather than PR one would of thought.
A bit of both here really, I think we need both recall for serious wrongdoing that cannot wait for an election, but still there is a need to remove seats from the gift of parties, there should be no safe seats rather seats where the MP is so popular that no one standing against him would have a chance because the local electorate believe in him/her. If a seat is in the hands of aprty aparachics then recall will probably not work and even if it does you will see litle change in the standard of representation

Brilliant, Jacqui Smith is probably my most disliked Labour politician - and that's saying something!

I feel tempted to write a letter telling her how glad I am.

Vaz was on Radio 4 on Monday morning to discuss knife crime and the results of a survey carried out into it around the UK. He managed to come up with the term 'Arms Race' meaning that if one person carries a knife so does another, the next carries a bigger knife etc......both the interviewer AND the Police spokesman rushed in to correct the situation saying ' the last thing we need is for people to create sound-bites and catchy slogans like 'Arms Race' and to glamorise the situation.' Well done Vaz. Nob.

But that is exactly what we have now, a candidate has to be nominated by local people, if a group of people choose to nominate an outsider that is their choice. It is interesting to see that in the US where they have a very much two party system the fear of not being re-elected has much more influence on actual voting than the party whip.

I also noted with interest that you considered those countries which operate PR and also have strong stable governments as failures because the governments in those countries actually reflect the wishes of the electorate.

There's always a shadow over anything and everything Vaz does. He has the fat sweaty reptilian presence that I find very discomforting. Utterly unpleasant man.

It leads to a market where the only thing that occurs is horde-trading between the traders for different deals - none of which are the right ones, merely the ones the don't upset all the other vested interests.

So much for Blair's 'Babes' eh? Her and that ginger minger. Nothing but two portly middle aged women going 'through the change', one with an irritating permanent grin and the other with an old man who preferred w*nking to porn movies. All we need now is for Mandelson be be caught nuts deep in a rent boy and Hoon to be found dead.

I f*cking hate the lot of them.

Jacqui Smith was just on BBC News 24, arrogant and repulsive as ever.

    Dear J

Hope you’ll excuse the familiarity of that opening, it’s just I thought we must be on such pally terms already since you’ve had no compunction about taking a few of my hard-earned pounds out of the pot on the sideboard and letting your husband use them to wipe his cock.
Looks like some Arrsers have been in already...

    My favorite:

    Dear Jacqui,

    At least you’re biodegradable.
