Anyone that's ever bought a bit of civilian kit to take on Ops or Exercise with them will be more than aware of the cross-over between tactical and civilian kit. What works well in Afghan might work equally well in some agricultural forest in the UK and what works well in the Arctic might work just as well at 2am on Salisbury Plains during a chanking cluster of an exercise!

As those of you that have already experienced the Brynje Super Thermo range or read the reviews on this site you'll know by now that there does appear to be an alternative solution to those solid offerings from the likes of Helly Hansen and Under Armour. It appears that the more holes you have in your clothing the warmer and drier it'll keep you. Having said that, looking at the state of some of my socks after exercise I don't think it necessarily applies to everything! ...

Feet are a bit of a pain in the backside at times. Whilst they're handy for walking on and stablising you when you stand up, they're also a great way to pass ten minutes by picking the fluff from between the toes or picking (Or biting if you're so inclined and capable) at the nails. Everyone apart from Paras love hats. From hats we got beanies. Everyone loves beanies apart from officers suffering from OCD when they insist that it doesn't matter how cold and non-tactical the situation is, you must be in a beret or helmet and ya boo-sucks to anyone that goes down with hypothermia because the majority of body heat is lost via your napper.

Beanies come in all manner of styles with the most ubiquitous being the standard green wool beanie that your grannie could knit for you in thirty minutes of hard needlework (That's provided your granny is from a day and age where the only clothing available was what she and Aunty Flo could conjure from the shavings of a sheep during a harsh winter). Since the wool take on things though we've never really seen a quantum leap forward in the process of manufacturing a beanie. Some companies use modern fabrics to try and create a better layer of insulation but there's never really been a massive rethink in the overall design, I mean, how far can you really take such a simple concept? ...
