My first impression of them was of how heavy they are. Most pants/trousers of this type are quite light by comparison. Also I chose to have them in Field Green. The colour on their website is actually slightly darker than what they actually are.

On the pants are 9 pockets. The two back pockets and 2 map pockets have brass button fasteners that link to a double cloth lid. This means the buttons are hidden between the two layers when closed reducing the chance of snagging and losing the buttons.
There are 2 brass zip pockets, one above each of the map pockets. The 2 main pockets are open, but large and there is also a handy little font pocket just below the belt loops on the front of the trousers. This is big enough to put a compass in securely.
The trousers are fastened with draw strings (nice touch) a brass button and a brass zip fly. All three zips on the trousers have a handy fabric pull cord on the zip fasteners for ease of access when wearing gloves.
I opted for the 33” waist which is a medium and would fit waist lines of 32” – 35”. The trousers themselves are quite baggy which reduces the chances of them sticking to you when wet. Although they are designed for slightly warmer climates, I was perfectly warm and comfortable in them when it was raining and at -4C temperatures first thing in the morning. They looked great when down the pub and tended to blend in well with the more traditional forms of fashion around today.
While wearing them around the Aldershot training area after running the GRIM challenge, my Mum who is a seamstress spotted them and commented on the good build quality and on how well the stitching is.
As well as the cargo pants I received the Molecule Shiny Happy Canvas Belt in Tan Khaki Cream. The belt was long enough to wrap around my waist 1.25 times. The belt has a crocodile clip fastening, with indentations on the end to ensure it wouldn’t come undone, like most belts of this type do. As an added bonus, the clip fastening has a handy bottle open shaped hole on the inside, which has been used to great effect.
I would say, all in all these are a great pair of trousers and if these ones ever wear out (which I doubt) I will certainly be logging onto their website to purchase a replacement. I have already been telling friends and family to look there, for outdoor clothing. I haven’t had the pleasure of trying any of their other products, but if they are as good as the Molecule Classic Cargo Pants, then they are worth every penny.
