Staggers back in amazement! Council shows common sense!

I've had a lot of contact with the council over this. To be fair their licensing team was cut from 6 to 3 officers, so whereas they used to go out at night and enforce the reg's, now they just rely on the public reporting any wrongdoing. Unfortunately the average drunk Bristolian, even on Monday when they've sobered up, rarely presents a compelling case.

In an all too rare outburst of common sense and defying the risk of being branded "Racist" or "Islamophobic" Bristol Council's Licencing Department took the extra-ordinary decision to prosecute two Muslim taxi drivers who refused to allow a blind customer into their cars with his guide dog!

"In an all too rare outburst of common sense"...unheard of, and who'd have thunk it. Far too late to turn the clock back and reclaim common sense after all these years of lunacy, but will these awfully waycist and phobic anti-discrimination actions catch on?

Orthodox Jews in New York havve a nice scam going because a fair few taxi drivers there are of the facing east and praying persuasion and don't like picking up blokes who look like the blues bros with ringlets.
They get someone to film them trying to flag down taxis and take the numbers of those that don't stop. NY taxi court does a fair few claims per day.

They must have caught on from the CivPop countering the Police 'on the darker spot fines'! When the Police try to extract back pocket fines (otherwise known as overtime bonus) from car drivers, the passengers are apt to record it all on their mobiles and specifically ask for the officers tag number before posting the clips on YouTube. The effect has been a significant decrease in overtime bonuses!

Here in Leicester, we had the Council run a Taxi Check on the local cabs, a while back. The response to this safety matter aimed at ensuring that joe public do not end up as road kill, was for the boys of the eastern persuadtion to bugger off so as not to be checked. This was around Christmas time and a Saturday, and in response the local union bod for them said that it was unreasonable to expect taxis to be safety checked on a Saturday. The safety check takes all of 10mins to carry out.

We have also have had the guide dog banning taxi drivers here in Leicester, to which for all their sins the local taxi licensing department has brought prosecutions against said drivers.

We had an instance up here where by the Police went into a corner shop with a search dog.

The Muslim owner kicked up fuss saying that as he and his family were Muslim the dog should not be allowed into his shop.

The judge in the case used common sense and pointed out that said "devote" Muslim shop owner sold pornography and alcohol. The case was thrown out.

This comes from the same city where a puppy was used by the police to promote the new 101 non emergency hot line and had to apologise for "offending" Muslims.

What's even more miraculous is that it was Bristol City Council who don't normally 'do sensible' in any shape or form. :)
