Re: Free travel for Veterans in London - well done Boris!
It says at the bottom that eligible people will be invited to apply via the MOD and get issued an Oyster Card, so I suppose the cost will be met by whoever usually issues Oyster Cards?
I think I've laddered my fucking tights.

I do hope those who have 'sounded off' against B.J with stupid and irrelevant 'Etonian' and 'Oxford' jibes, will now wind in their old fashioned, 1970's stupid lefty necks.
Social envy is the lowest and most dangerous strain of jealousy.
BJ is a solid good man. He has more intellect in his left heel than the entire government and more even , dare I say this, than is evident on this site!
PS: Bet he is chuffed with the Henley results - bet he won't crow about it though.
PPS: Longing for 'Sven's' explanation of why zaNU Liarbour came behind Greens and BNP - yes! BNP.

Sorry fella, so we were told. The technology is bloody ancient. You can't book into or out of theatre.

Brilliant Boris. At last, refreshing to see a high profile and well respected MP doing something for those that actually deserve it for a change. Good news, feels more liberating than walking around the garden in the nude on a breezy summers evening.
No doubt Brown and Darling will be feverishly fingering the abacus at Number 11 to find out how many pennies this will cost them. But then they can always blow each other off to lighten the mood.....

Besides this, a contributor to Rum Ration says that vets in receipt of a War Pension are entitled to a Forces railcard - any info on this? I have emailed the Vets Agency and am now eagerly holding my breath.

Re: Free travel for Veterans in London - well done Boris!
This is a quote from the original press release:
I've searched the the web & the only ones I can see eligible for a Forcres Railcard are War Widows/Widowers. I too would love to know more!War veterans currently receive a 34 per cent discount on National Rail with a £15 Forces Railcard, but do not receive any further travel concessions, unless they qualify for the Freedom Pass, meaning that for younger veterans only the most severely injured are eligible.I write down everything I want to remember. That way, instead of spending a lot of time trying to remember what it is I wrote down, I spend the time looking for the paper I wrote it down on.

Re: Free travel for Veterans in London - well done Boris!
Is there a scale against which you can apply, I know for instance that we class NIHL far lower than the CF veterans welfare do and as such can be almost completely deaf in one ear and still get the sum total of sod all. I stand to lose a certain part of my income if I fail my next hearing test so I may be needing to apply for benefits and look to change the day job permanently.

Re: Free travel for Veterans in London - well done Boris!
Well I wait with baited breath for the inviteA new Oyster photocard will be issued to those eligible for the scheme who apply after being invited by the Ministry of Defence.
Full details of the application process will be available on the Transport for London website from this Autumn.
A very good scheme, but I fear MoD will fcuck it up.
The harder the fighting and the longer the war, the more the infantry and in fact all the arms, lean on the Gunners - Field Marshal Montgomery.

This permits the disabled person and any adult traveling with them (ostensibly as their carer) to a 34% reduction off most fares.
There are a few 'civvy' Disability benefits which also give access to the Disabled Railcard for those Veterans who do not get WPMS or an 80% War/Service Invalidity Pension but get such as Long Term Incapacity Benefit etc. Details here:

War Pensioners who also receive WPMS can also receive the free 'national off peak' bus pass valid across England on local busses (separate schemes apply in Scotland and Wales but are broadly similar).
