I had a mate, who was an accountant, he worked out once that it was more economical to buy one cheap but good used car and use it till it dropped, then another, then another rather than buying a newish one that depreciates so much you are in negative equity as soon as you leave the dealer. Over 6 years he had a Shogun, a Passat estate and then a Porsche 944 all for under around 7 grand total.

I didn't know that about Lannys in the US. In an idle moment, I looked for a 90 V8 a while back, and was surprised I found only one for sale in the entire US. Why the import ban? I'd think whatever ills affect them are just as bad for the Jeep POS.

If I missed the Army that much, I'd rip the sound deadening out of my truck, beat fuck out of the bodywork with a hammer, throw some sand/ball bearings in the transmission and put some 24V bulbs in the headlights. Oh, and smash the radio. And paint over the sunroof. Black and green IRR, natch.

Fuel consumption would be about the same though.

Whatever you do - DO NOT buy a f*cking Volvo XC 90, the dealers do not have a word for "hundreds" when it comes to servicing or repairs, everything is a Harry Enfieldish "thousands".

Transmissions go frequently - £6,500, ........... if the radio stops working, the alarm won't work! - £1,500..... for a CD player !

Even changing a light bulb requires some form of training.

Steering rack - don't start me - "thousands". Handbrake ..... more complex than an aircraft ......"thousands".

Whoever designed the thing needs murdering, everything is cack handed.

Less stressful just to burn £50 notes.
