Well, I hate having quotas to fill, though cameras dont contribute to that, and police forces arent allowed to keep the fines they dish out, it goes to the home office.

I would imagine there had been some kind of spike in the accident stats for that stretch of road and the powers that be had ordered them to concentrate their efforts there for a bit.

Up here in Scotlandshire we don't have the Highways Agency Traffic Officers, instead private contractors supply the Trunk Road Incident Support Service. They don't look anything like the police which might explain why you won't hear a bad word about them. Then again, they don't have any powers.

I think the Highways Agency guys/girls do a great job but whoever thought up the quasi-polizei vehicle markings has projected the wrong image.

I work for that company our role is different from the Highways Agency and our priorities are not the same. The other thing we have is a good working relationship with the Police and other stake holders incl the important folk (the Public).

Could it be that the Liabour Government has decreed that more police should go out on the street and hanging about trunk roads is easier on the poor things than actually walking the streets where they might bump into real criminals? or,
