Re: Starting a new life in Canada - Calgary Police
Ref the RCMP I spoke with their recruitment stand while at the Calgary Stampede (as well as the forces & Calgary police) and they said they only accept Canadian Citizens.
some of the local forces will accept you as a 'landed immigrant' though.
I'm doing the remaining 6 yrs of my 22 and Im offski, hopefully to Calgary- when asked about their maximum age they said they' wouldn't really want anyone over about 55' as they have to look at the return of service before retirement age'
I've done 2 trips out there, 1 10 day holiday around Calgary and a Medman, both times I was amazed by the friendliness of the locals, even in the city and more so out in the sticks.
6 yrs and counting!!BOHICA

Anything federal needs Canadian citizenship, which for a Commonwealth nartional means after you get Landed Immigrant status, it's 3 years. Non-Commonwealth is 5 years.
Most other forces accept Landed Immigrant status people, regardless of Province. Ontario has the largest amount of police services as well as the largest services (outside of the RCMP).

Re: Canadian Police
I moved to Canada in 2005 from the UK and now work for a Police service in Ontario.
Regarding the RCMP, you have to be a citizen first. Then, they can and will post you to ANYWHERE in the country they choose.
Canada truly is a great country and I would not move back to blighty for anything.

Re: Canadian Police
It's spelled "Eh?" you giblet. As for joining the filth over here, may I humbly suggest Quebec? We have the most haphazard collection of senseless laws of ANYWHERE in the country, likely the world, for hopped-up jobsworthy, socially -retarded, powercrazed cahnts to uphold.Case in point: The yellow margarine law. It is illegal to sell yellow margarine in Qc. under penalty of huge fines/ minor jail time. And that's just the start of it....
Some third-wave feminists prefer not to call themselves feminists, as the word feminist can be misinterpreted as insensitive to the fluid notion of gender and the potential oppressions inherent in all gender roles, or perhaps misconstrued as exclusive or elitist by critics. Others have kept and redefined the term to include these ideas. Third-wave feminism seeks to challenge any universal definition of femininity.

Ha ha, it's actualy about 3 hours of an interview asking all about any shady happenings in your past followed by about an hour on the machine doing confirmatory questions. Everyone I've spoken with who's been through it says the same. It's bloody awful!
