hi Guys,
I realise that this is an old post, but I thought you may like ot hear the latest from the Defence Minister in Canada to the MOD. Last year they were in talks to start a scheme such as the Austrailans have, i.e, coming to the end of your British Army Career, or anytime in between, you can now apply to join the Canadian Army where you may serve until you are 60 years old. There are various ways of getting in, obviously the first thing to do is contact the Canadian Recruitment offices, however, not all of the personnel that work in these places are aware of the new rules.
If you know the area of Canada where you would like to live, contact the local Garrison there and talk to the CO, he can then write a letter of recommendation for a waiver of Citizenship, once you have this letter you may then join your unit. This doesnot give you immediate citizenship, but it does give you employment and you are expected to apply for your citizenship within a time period, usually two years. You must have your immigration paperwork already submitted, the CF cannot submit for you, no matter what you have heard.
My husband went through this process five years ago, he applied to join CF, was told he could and then received a computer letter saying he couldn't as he wasn't a Citizen - I then wrote to the Defence Minister and pointed out that any member of a commonwealth country may join any commonwealth country's froces as we all serve the same Sovereign, and those who have already served have already pledged their lives to the Soveriegn, surprise surprise a Ministerial Edit came down and said get this guy in NOW.
We haven't looked back.
So in short check out the latest news from the MOD on joining CF, and don't be disheartened if some idiot says no, as there is always a way. Also you have until you are 50 to join up. As for fitness, well as long as you are fit, no major problems you will be accepted.
Good Luck all!

Miss Adjt, would it be possible at all (provided you know of course!) for you to advise me on how easy it would be to transfer across to the CF? I ask as I am already a Canadian citizen, citizenship being by virtue of my Mother. I have all the relevant documentation squared away.

Dear Will Work for Biscuit Brown,
It should be reasonably painless. The first thing to do is to contact CF recruiting and let them know that you are a citizen and currently serving with the British Forces but would like to join the CF. If you use the word transfer they may get a little starttled, however, all your military service is taken into consideration when you join the CF and you are given the appropriate rank and pay. See what they say and if you get any trouble with it then eamil me at hlmiller762@gmail.com and I will get my hubby on to it for you.
The only thing that I can see which may cause a headache is which Regiment do you wish to join and when. If you know this then contact the Regiment direct and talk to the Adjt, DCO or CO as teh recruiting office doesn't always know what is going on and the more people you have pulling for you the better and quicker it is.
Good luck.
