I am in my last 12 months as a WO1 (ASM) REME (black hand gang, VM). I have had my emmigration paperwork in with the Embassay for three years and it is now in review. I have tried on numerous occassions to contact the Canadian Army recruiting officers with no luck.
Can i join the Canadian Army?
I am fully fit and fully deployable and have trade skills to offer.
I am however 44 yeras old. Will they still accept me?
I hope someone can help me.
    Tiffytinytanks.
Having spoken to them about my chances/choices they said their upper age limit is something like 57. So age might not be an issue? There is a online recruiting tool on their website, where you can chat to a recruiter - that might help? If you can't find the website let me know, but it's something like forces.gc.ca ?

Does anyone know if the Vehicle Technician trade is still recruiting. Is this trade still in demand, as I wish to apply now against this trade group.

    UPDATE:

After a few medical queries from old injuries and slight hearing loss, Ottowa have cleared me as medically fit, (now to get physically fit).
I have been granted a waiver excusing me from attending the Basic Military Training (BMQ), now just waiting for file to be returned to recruiting office in Calgary to enable them to start the enrollment process.

A VM buddy of mine just had his hand bitten off by the Canuck Army.

I don't know his precise details, but he tells me that their desperate for deployable v.mech and recce mech types.

He signed off, moved out with his Canuck wife, did the paper work over there and signed up about two months after he arrived

Obviously his 'canadian wife' was a huge advantage tho.

Yup... I attended a presentation by the Chief of Defence Staff and he was pretty clear on their recruiting priorities: people who can fix heavy equipment and scaly type stuff. Afghanistan is kicking the CF to pieces right now and they don't have time to train up the maintainers to keep it all serviceable.

Good to hear they are after VM's. I will just have to wait out for the Selection Board to decide. The process is certainly hit or miss. I am grateful for all the assistance anyone can give.
