It sounds almost as ludicrous as sending troops to war without (standard issue) body armour or enough small arms ammunition.

I knew the lads on that patrol very well, in particular Tricky. He's a switched on lad who recounted the incident in detail on returning from the patrol, whilst giggling like a lunatic. There were countless L109s being lobbed from his WMIK as it drove through the enemy positions and plenty of incoming rounds in return.

Not bad for a "Corps" person.

You don't have to release sensationalised stories to learn valuable lessons. The patrol survived unscathed which would indicate that any mistakes made during the operation could be highlighted and ironed out on the official de-brief. Why this man feels the need to gripe in public 9 years later is beyond me but I’m sure he has his rea$$$$sons.

“If we had all died I am sure the blame would have been placed on us, on me in particular,”

There's a serious element of truth in that statement. It was exactly what happened with the RMP 6. They ducked and dived like fuck then tried to plant the blame on Simon Hamilton-Jewell. When caught out, they ducked and dived some more.

What happened to the careers of the LT, Capt and Maj OC? Not to mention the LTC? RMAS entrants seem to be tefloned when they enter the Corps.

Interesting quote in the Independent article:

"Iraq's feared Fedayeen in their distinctive white uniforms"...

Never had heard of this one.

I don'y think they wore them in battle. They started parading about in Iraq as the war started, dressed like the KKK.

I think the white started appearing when they promised to 'die defending' saddam or simlar... they made some sort of suicide promise. They even wore white gloves and masks.
