Discuss What are you reading right now? in The Book Club on The Army Rumour Service; Working my way through Fusiliers by Mark Urban. Rifles is waiting in the wings. Not a bad account of the ARW especially in the use of Flank Companies/Light infantry....

Absolutely superb and graphic account of the British 29th Brigade during the Korean war, culminating in the holding actions along the Imjin river. I've had it 3 days and haven't been able to put it down, one of the most compelling military history books I've ever read.

Personal accounts cross referenced with official sources and Regimental war diaries, maps for every chapter and extensive use of authors notes throughout the book make this a must read for anyone who like me suddenly realised how little they knew about this conflict.

    Five stars.
I've pre-ordered the paperback (out in April) from Amazon for a Holiday read. There are a few good reviews on Amazon and the authors own website is pretty good too with some great photographs of the veterans who supplied personal accounts.

'How to make love like a porn star (a cautionary tale)' Jenna Jameson - Really good book & puts your life into perspective.

'Slash' autobiography - I was a big GnR fan, but my god there were things going on behind the scenes that you couldn't imagine. Well worth £4.
Chuffed to bits, my room is about 100m from the runway & the red arrows are doing their training.

Russia against Napoleon by Dominic Lieven. For any Brit whose only knowledge of the Napoleonic Wars is Nelson, Wellington, the Peninsular and Waterloo this is an eye-opener. The heavy lifting was done on the eastern front in a similar manner to WW2. In two years the Russians had turned things around from losing Moscow to marching into Paris. A superb book.

So far so good, very well researched and written in an easy style with lots of interesting information about soldiering in the late Victorian era.
Finished today, great book highly recommended.
After reading this book I might go and buy Churchill's own books 'Malakand Field Force' about his service on the NW Frontier and 'River War' about the Sudan campaign. Anyone read them?

When I was at school and aged about 12 yrs one of the books I was forced to read , as a year book , was The White Company written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle , of Sherlock Holmes fame . Needless to say when I saw the book’s author I was obviously keyed up for a good read .

Since I retired a number of years ago I have been re-reading books I read many years ago .

In December I got a copy of the White Company and read it again . Well it has taken me about three weeks to finish and I could not believe I had read this book aged 12 … parts were in poetry , some in olde English … apparently Conan Doyle was a fanatic about the Middle Ages . I think he must have written this book to try and put young people off reading for life .

Basically it is about the Brits going off to bash the French but by the Lord Harry it was a difficult read even after 50+ years gap . We beat the French .
There are those who know .... those who don't know .... but the most annoying , outspoken and dangerous are ....

those who don't know they don't know .
