Re: Museum of Army Flying - opinions please......
As a lowly REME I remember being used as "hired labour" for the MOAF back in the day. I was dissapointed in the overall standard of the exhibits back then. Is there still the Bell rusting away outside? I popped in a couple of years back to pick up a tie for one of our pilots when I was on my way past. It didn't look like much new material had been added in the ten years between visits.
Although my Corps museum is primarily geared towards the 90% of the REME who work on things other than Avn, it's a pretty good visit. There are some helicopter things and there is the Scout in pristine condition at Arborfield. If you are cheeky enough I dare say you would be able to blag a look round the hangar. Probably better than visiting the MOAF.
Did they ever get the A109? The cheeky cnuts wanted to repaint it in Argentinian colours if I remember correctly. Like the 8 Flt civvy colours wouldn't have been an interesting enough exhibit.

Re: Museum of Army Flying - opinions please......
What a tragic thread. Having encountered, late in life, a few AAC guys on ARRSE I was genuinely minded to visit the Museum during my next trip to the mainland.
I now think perhaps not. How tragic.
The new US Marine Corps Museum at Quantico is amazing ... we went a couple of months ago, and will re-visit next Spring. And, obviously, I am easily impressed by the RAF Museum at Hendon. Both are free, I recall. How much does this maligned AAC one cost me?

Perhaps if the "MOAF" comment regarding the "minority" is a miscreant by some mischievous third party, could someone within SO20 8DY please step forward and show their true colours and assure ALL parties here that the Museum of Army Flying embraces their military sponsors, their paying audience and finally all those who care about Army Aviation by making a simple footnote regarding their position on this "Minority Report"
Standing by in hope, Trahere.

If you are a member of the 'Army Aviation' website, you will see that the AAC RSM is all over this like a rash, he stated that it was a legitimate post by the museum and has asked for it's retraction. This also feature's within the Corps newsletter and IS being dealt with. These comments haven't gone un-noticed and are being discussed at the highest level.

Now, wouldn't it be interesting if one or more of the relatives of those comrades whos names are in the Book of Remembrance held in the museum, were to request that their relatives name be removed from that book, or indeed request that the book be placed somewhere more deserving and fitting...the church for example.
After all, those who died in service of the Corps are a minority of the minority that the museum does not want to pander to.

I recently attended a 'graduation' (not pass off) at RAF Halton, they have a very small museum there but its got plenty of items in. More shockingly the staff there are interested in talking with people, interested in making the displays better and even offer to open up on closed days if you ring them and ask nicely in advance.
contact details for the curator can be found on this page (along with some waffle)also available in sarcastic

Thanks for keeping us up to speed on this. Good to see it's being dealt with at the right levels.

May you die of boredom waiting for visitors. If you believe in an afterlife, I hope the thought of the reception waiting for you from past members of the AAC keep you awake at night.
