Buccs, a bit before my FAC career started. Tough as old boots and a joy to fly, so I've been told. Many blokes would rate a Bucc over a GR4 in flying terms.
I've always wondered what it is that makes FACs so cool - even the pensioners at 21 Sigs FAC Tp :D
It doesn't make us cool, we are cool.
Well, all the old "Echo" Troop Taffs were. I pitied them getting the Fat Controller a few years ago as TC when Bythesea Road was still a TAC. There were a few rogues in the Troop iirc, and we always knew that at some stage 21 FAC would be operating out of The Bustard!
I think I knew him from Leeming, a pretty good bloke as I remember. What did he do to pi** you off, record your control for posterity and share it with the course?
RC
Nice enough man, just not the most inspiring leader imho. I heard on the grapevine that he buggered off and joined the RAF... go on, it's you, isn't it? :D

You are right, Splash is not a NATO brevity code word, only a US one for Weapons Impact. (A-G) Clearly a case of Brevity word creep.
