Discuss France has sent 3 Tiger HAP to Afghanistan at the Aviation forum within the The Army Rumour Service website; See the pilot packing his own kit!!! Surely he should have his man do it ...
After its first six months in theater, the Tigre ARH has averaged an availability rate of 93%; the three Tigers currently in theater have carried out more than 240 missions, delivering ordnance (68 mm rockets and 30 mm rounds) in close combat attack missions on many occasions, to support both French and Coalition units.
The Tiger guys at Le Luc hosted us for a couple of weeks, they were still training the first guys at that stage and were very keen to absorb as much experience from guys who had operated in Afghanistan.
They were really good chaps and looked after us all really well. They were rightly proud of their shiny cabs although they admitted that they had some very significant problems to overcome before it would be effective on Ops.
I hope that they are having success and staying safe. Thanks guys for a great couple of weeks.

It appears that Germany is experiencing a few snags with their Tigers.

MM
It appears that Germany has decided it was convenient to hide behind some technical issues that France also had (wiring) not to send its Tigers to Afghanistan for another 2 years minimum and to stop spending money on defense in time of financial crisis.
Funnily enough, the Tigers that the Germans describe as "useless" are seen as "priceless" by the French who actually have been flying them in combat for 9 months now.
The 30 mm cannon and 68 mm rockets have proved their worth in gold on several occasion, the best known being the extraction of a joint US SF/ Foreign Legion sniper team in RC-E last September.
I guess that the German choice of going for a dedicated tank killing helo relying on a yet to be developed ATGW and devoid of a gun turret was not all that smart in that day and age after all...
