Re: France to send 3 Tiger ARH and 2 Cougar to Afghanistan
Do you think their QM will be getting his arse chewed when they try flying them?

As long as the 30 mm shells and 68 mm rockets are there...

It would also be nice if Australia could make up its mind on the deployment of its Tiger ARH to Afghanistan. They'll probably wait for the French to erase the main bugs before taking their chances.[/quote]
I believe that is called " Smart Research and Development".

Re: France has sent 3 Tiger ARH to Afghanistan
I notice in one of 'fantassin''s photos showing what I assume to be the Pilots/Gunner's 'kit' that besides a pistol he also carries a rifle.
Before I left NI back in the Last Century, the aircrew had taken to carrying the HK 53. This was after Paddy shot down the Lynx in 1988 then started after the crew.
Would have though Paddy would be 'Kind' compared to 'Terry'.
Trust our aircrew are following this French tradition.

Our (UK) Apache pilots each have a SA-80 Carbine attached to the side of their seat in case they 'land' in a hostile environment.

So weapon trials, targets will fall, explode and disappear when hit. Good drills. :D

I think the Aussies are still conducting final weapons/missile certification before they even think about overseas deployment.
You'll probably hear about before I do....I fix broke stuff - in 'Stralia

Re: France has sent 3 Tiger ARH to Afghanistan

And now, after the Tigers and as announced previously, the two Cougars have arrived in Afghanistan.
With the Caracal that makes 5 transport helos for the FRA brigade, still a far cry from what is really needed but better than nothing.
Now, the FRA Gvt is supposedly interested by the purchase of 4 Predator B from the US....or so thinks this article from a respectable FRA magazine.

Re: France has sent 3 Tiger ARH to Afghanistan
So what are the Armée going to do in the meantime for ISR/ISTAR until the (possible) Predators maybe come along? They've crashed nearly all their other UAVs so what have they left for ISR in theatre? Now, the FRA Gvt is supposedly interested by the purchase of 4 Predator B from the US....or so thinks this article from a respectable FRA magazine.

Re: France has sent 3 Tiger ARH to Afghanistan
wildly irrelevent, but that paint scheme (rust, bright green and black), on both Tigre and Cougar, has got to be the worst set of colours imaginable!
its horrible!

Re: France has sent 3 Tiger ARH to Afghanistan
After its first six months in theater, the Tigre ARH has averaged an availability rate of 93%; the three Tigers currently in theater have carried out more than 240 missions, delivering ordnance (68 mm rockets and 30 mm rounds) in close combat attack missions on many occasions, to support both French and Coalition units.
