Re: Transferring to the Australian Army
Dear All
Just one word of warning, the Auz army is currently 700 to 1000 over manned (depending on which stats you look at) please be very wary of spending any money on your visa application until you get the formal offer. ie the letter.
recently there have been families who have been accepted as suitable to transfer to much WHOOOP , WHOOP and bottles of bubbles
ONLY
to be told that there are no vacancies in their trade, Corp or rank.

Re: Transferring to the Australian Army
Just to add a bit of balance here - before people get too despondant.
The SCMA team interviewed people for known vacancies, I think there were 68 OR spots that required filling, they would not have told you at interview that a job offer was looming if it wasn't.
RSM SCMA briefed a course I was attending and he made the point that positions for laterals were reduced this year as 'outflow' was reduced due to the financial climate. The interview team would not have wasted their time and yours if there was no job available for the candidates.
In short - don't panic! However, the advice from D-u-D is still good - don't jump the gun as you will get nothing back if you are unsuccessful...
Good luck to everyone on your Migration Apps - should take about 4 months from initial submission to the 'you are good to go' email.I fix broke stuff - in 'Stralia

Re: Transferring to the Australian Army
Nige - Thanks. I echo that I cannot imagine that the Oz army are in the habit of organising visits to the UK solely to the UK for the purpose of watching the Ashes and teasing a few Brits none the less Duchess does bring up a relevant point talked about a bit over the last few days.
Lets all be cautious about what we post both good and bad (certainly on this forum) less we degrade its real value and have a thought to the effect it could have on individuals going through the process. SCMA certainly cautioned against posting incorrect info at the interviews.
P.S It is ARRSE though so lets not get too excited and remember we are here for a crack as well!! Lets keep good spirited!!
Moving swiftly on!!

Re: Transferring to the Australian Army
To you all
Had interviews on Tuesday and am pleased to say that we were sucessful. I dont think that it has properly sunk in yet but i am sure it will.
We are off to 1 Avn Regt in Darwin, cant wait and I cant thank you all enough for the advice and help and humour on this journey so far. The panel did mention that they were thinking of offering 3 year only contracts to some people, i.e. They take you on to fill a specific gap for 3 years then terminate your contract. I am sure though that this is all part of the Expectation Management policy.
Looking forward to the rest of our lives.
Good luck to everyone left still to go, even you South Bound! What I found hard to believe though was that 1 family failed to turn up on our day and apparently its a common occurance, why bother?
Any way, i am off to throw away all my jackets and long trousers!
ATB
Groundhog 749( or Hog boy as South Bound fondly knows me as!)Dont wait for your boat to come in, swim out and meet the bastard! Mr B Sheene.

Re: Transferring to the Australian Army
Page 86 - We all agree to cut out the chit chat. by the top of page 87 there are 6 congratulations to GH. If the 68 positions that Nige is talking about all get filled then that is about 408 congratulations which equals about another 20 odd pages on here. 20 extra pages for the newcomers to have to trawl through to get the info they require.
Is it not a given that as people on here are offering advice they are simultaneously offering good luck and congratulations when people get given the answer they crave?!
Not having a go at anyone - it just makes it a lot harder to find things on tens of pages. and simply deleting things doesn't remove the post - it just says deleted in it's place - so the actual amount of pages remain the same.
and while i may not have offered too much on the pages on here - I have used the PM function...
Oh - Congratulations GH - see you here soon! ;)
