I have spoken to them already about this and the bottom line is they would like us in Oct as we can complete the entrance / welcome course then be moved to unit to start in line with the posting cycle in Jan. That said when I asked the question about a possible delay they understood and said it would be ok.
I kind of hope that if you have to be flexible they will understand as if they want you theyn will want you with a delay of two / three... 12 months.

To all of you that have been accepted for service in the ADF, congratulations, but it's not over. Applying for the visa and all the other documentation can just as time frustrating as the application to join process. However once you have you posting order from SCMA everything is a relative breeze! They know how to look after you!
I have been over here since 2008 and have served in Townsville and Brisbane so if you have any questions on these to places let me know.
A lot of good advice has been given in threads by others already over here. I wish I had had the advantage of this advice. Please take note of what they say. From my own experiences the following advice is given:
Try, try, try not to refer to the British Army all the time. As frustrating as it may seem you will be in the ADF, change is not likely to happen.
Small towns can be harder for the wives to adapt to. Work for spouses can be hard to find outside of capital cities, as can child care. Spouses with qualifications should be ok. Kids apapted to Aussie lifestyle straight away, they love it. Wife does now, and only misses her Mom!
Do all the ADF courses offered from scratch. Don't bother with prior qualifications or competences. You will meet more contacts and learn the way to do things.
Of course you will get the Pom gibes, but it is all good natured (mostly). Just don't be a whinging Pom!
Just for your info, I am now out of the ARA and now a TOAD (ARES). I did all the promotion and trade courses and cleared PAC for WO2. However I was headhunted and offered a job in the LNG industry in Gladstone, which I took with no regrets, even though it meant giving up the promotion and a posting to Sydney.
All the best.Last edited by Dougal; 21-01-2012 at 03:11.

Does anyone know how strict the search into your military discipline goes? Ie if a court marshal appears on your records (7 years ago) will this prevent the application from proceeding? I call it a blip in the career, now a WO2 with 2 years left and looking at the future.
Will this blip be looked at in isolation or discredited at the starting gate(filtered).
Any advice is greatly greatly appreciated.

^ Mate, what do you reckon, of course they're going to do background checks and that does include any charges. It's all very problematical isn't it? What the fuck did you do, punishment awarded etc? If, by what you are telling us is that you are now sporting a Warrant means that the charge was seen at Regt. level and I'm guessing a reprimand, if so, not a real 'biggy'. I mean "he who has not sinned blah blah blah."

If you don't tell them, then they notice something in your records it will not look good and could affect your 1. application or 2. your career if you are successful, gaining employment under false pretences could get you kicked out of Australia at a really inconvenient time.
If you tell them, they will make a judgment and let you know either way.I fix broke stuff - in 'Stralia

Thank you for the positive reply's. I Pleaded guilty at court-martial to battery (common assault) awarded letter of displeasure (2 year promotion time bar) 2000 pound fine and costs. (No barrackroom lawyers please i know a court-martial cannot award this but they did and the review also accepted this) The reason for court was hitting a JNCO, like i said 7 years ago and been promoted twice since otherwise the conduct sheet is clean. I will not try to hide this fact however wondering if i will may be accepted with this? Does anyone have any experience with previous applicants with a similar background.
Good luck to all those still trying and well done for those who have made it.

I don't know if it will affect your selection or not, I do know that not all lateral recruits have their LS&GC, so some bad boys are here
