"A democracy cannot survive as a permanent form of government. It can last only until its citizens discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority (who vote) will vote for those candidates promising the greatest benefits from the public purse, with the result that a democracy will always collapse from loose fiscal policies, always followed by a dictatorship." Sophie story is very sad,she has been handed into the pound by her owners parents as he was killed in Afganistan and they simply can't cope. She is a middle aged dog who is so confused in kennels she just doesn't understand why she is in there, not only has she lost her owner but also her home. Please can someone help this girl who the pound describe as "sweet".

Is the photo, if you can see that then you'll be able to message Lianne Evans who is dealing with it. Staffy bitch (if the correct photo has been used, there are a fair few photos in the album).

I would take her in a heart beat. Having an established older female and male staffie plus two cats though, would just be asking for trouble and she desperately needs stability. I most sincerely hope that the right home awaits her.

Given that so many here either own or like staffies and similar dogs I thought I would post a link to an amazing pit bull. The dog had been adopted by a Boston cop who lived in a Boston suburb and stayed with his mum much of the time. When his mum fell and passed out on railroad tracks Lilly the dog pulled the woman off the tracks but was hit herself. The woman was unscathed but the dog was badly injured. They had to amputate her right front leg but she is recovering. Lilly the hero dog has her own facebook page.

also a you tube of Lilly and her family.

By the way the video has a reference to donations. Do not worry, Angell Memorial Hospital, a teaching hospital for Tufts Univ. Vet School, has received donations that exceed the costs of Lilly's care and the balance will be used for dogs whose owners cannot afford care. If you look at the pics you will see a large memory foam dog bed which was donated to her. Apparenly the dog loves it.

ok, the home didn't happen, so she's still in the pound. No release fee, but has only had first vaccination, and will need either a rescue place or a foster home with experience. She can be choosy about which dogs she likes, so probably best in a single dog home. She's against the clock.
