Am just about to return to the UK after a number of years abroad, can anyone tell me what the legal requirements are these days when owning a dog (non dangerous as he is a Cocker Spaniel), he is obviously microchipped. Does he have to wear a name tag and if so what should be on it etc, is there requirement for insurance and any other points. I know vets bills will be higher for a start.

Name tag with owner's name and address on it. That's all unfortunately..as far as I am aware.

I imagine that you will want to have him re microchipped to show his new address.

Not quite, loads of exemptions for working dogs but dogs that are docked should be microchipped but its not retrospective!

Pet passport? Insurance isn't compulsory but may be wise.

Re vet charges. I believe ours are the highest in Europe. Booster shots are about twice the price of the rest on average.

We aint called Rip Off Britain for nothing, we have to be top at something.

The franchises of vets4pets do a one off fee for boosters for life. I wonder what might happen if they were sold, new franchise owner so I didn't bother.
