Unfortunately Ian hasn't done himself any favours by yelling and screaming at Nitro.

But, Nitro loves the rest of us so it's all good.

    Cheers for that.
If he's yelling and screaming then he's making himself a threat and the dog is doing nothing more than eliminating the threat.

Solution: Give Nitro a bonio and a pat on the head. Send Ian to behavioural classes.

    First time lucky!
I didn't say it was your fucking fault, I said I was blaming you.

Don't try to calm him or make friends, he or she has made up their mind and could attack

    Edited to add:

Doberman X Ridgeback sounds like an awesome guard dog and not one to take lightly. I'd stay well away if I was that bloke.
It would also depend what type of tail a dog has.

A legal one by the sound of it. You could make a bad mistake if it's docked and going round and round.

    Absolutely.

If the quiet and sensible approach doesn't work and he persists, this is the one situation this year where I could see a shock collar appropriate.

Sadly, in these days of rights, Ian may get backing from your H&R people and not have to wear it.

Ian has been told in no uncertain terms to stay well away from Nitro.

Nitro is a good looking dog with a normal tail. We have 2 dogs at the yard,Nitro and Sally who is a Cattledog cross Wolfhound. Both dogs come from Peninsula Animal Aid who have a No Euthenasia policy for all their dogs. Sally and Nitro were long term residents there as they both have behaviour issues which made them hard to find homes for.

Nitro has the ability to get over a 6' chain link fence and then chew people. Sally has a pathological hatred of children. Neither of these issues are a problem for us,so they are spoilt rotten at the yard.

If I get a chance I'll bung some pics up.
    High on life. And glue.

Really good to read, not only of rescue dogs being found new lives, but of a very proper approach to working dogs in guarding.

I am constantly incensed at those who think it is about conditioning them to hate all people, and then wonder why they get bitten!

A pack member looking after their own is fine, and understood by most dogs.

I was thinking about dogs with tails that curve over their back such as my little angel.
