Erm, no we didn't..... ARRSE didn't have a database until we upgraded to PHP-Nuke later in 2002. Having said that there was a v brief period in Jan 02 when we used a MS Frontpage threaded system but I'm not sure that was ever released into the wild. I don't think even that used a DB but am not 100% sure.

Regarding the Jul 03 date - Ord_Sgt is spot on

Re: A Brief History of ARRSE

I joined the site in May/June 2002 having been shown it by a friend at London OTC (Niteventure if anyone remembers him). He'd just persuaded the CO's to open a separate OTC forum which he moderated and so was trying to get others to come along and join in. There were several characters back then who have since departed or changed their usernames (Masonic, Convoy_Cock and Sniperbird to name a few).

The firemen strike sparked a spike in interest, as did the 'blue on blues' of Telic 1 and the Mirrors dodgy photo's. The possibility of using ARRSE as a force for change started quite late on but the campaigns by the website have probably been it's greatest achievement and the CO's have to be given their share of the credit for the results.

I was offered a moderatorship because the CO's were looking for more moderators to look after the growing site and I was recommended to them by Niteventure. I was given the Lonely Hearts and the OTC to babysit and the OTC board started to be filled with more and more people from cadets and OTCs so a separate Cadet board was built.

When I stopped being a student I wasn't able to attend to moderating the site anywhere near as much and so Woopert offered to take over the Creche, sorry, the OTC and Cadet boards.
RMAS CSgt: "Hurry up Mr Quantity, my dead mother could dig that trench faster then you!"

OCdt UQ: "Yes CSgt, but she's got a 6 foot head start on me!"

That is one shedload of journalists!!
I write down everything I want to remember. That way, instead of spending a lot of time trying to remember what it is I wrote down, I spend the time looking for the paper I wrote it down on.

That's one hell of a lot of bots, because it can't just be down to wikileaks!

Edit: I've just remembered that GCO changed the default log off time, which might have affected things!
