Following on from the general discussions about ARRSE sans advertising, we think we're in a position to do this but wanted to discuss pricing. Our initial thoughts were based on a quarterly subscription with £10 as the base figure with discounts for longer terms so:

3 months = £10.00 (or £3.33 per month)
6 months = £18.00 (or £3.00 per month)
12 months = £30.00 (or £2.50 per month)

What are your thoughts - outrageously expensive, better discounts for longer periods, too little?

Note that this would remove all advertising except that in the ARRSEpedia and search results. Last 50 would be ad free though.

Edit - I should have mentioned that this would only ever be optional. There would always be a free version with ads!

Excellent Bad CO, I think your pricing is perhaps a little (but only a little mind) low, I was thinking that the £4-£5 per month sort of level would be about right.

Just out of interest, and far more importantly would financial contributors get a funky new medal next to their Avatar?

I get porn for that kind of money you know! I am indifferent, the ads don't bother me much tbh.

I agree with a little 'gizzit'. Otherwise, what are subscribers gaining that they can't gain by using Adblocker?

I think the prices look fair. Too much and it just puts folk off. Too little and the site loses too much money.

The ads could be put in using popunders for those that don't subscribe.

Thought has to be put in as to what happens when a subscriber is banned as well.

Apart from the current issue of the latest post in a thread having an advert in the text area, the adverts don't bother me. In fact, some are amusing or even useful.

Viceroy has a good idea, though. A subscribed version with snippets of porn instead of adverts...

Can it be payable through something as simple as paypal?

While I have my computer/tablet/stupid head on. I don't get any ads on my tablet, but happy to contribute.
