Nick Griffin used his Question Time appearance to imply that he was a better Briton than Justice Secretary Jack Straw because 'my father was in the RAF during the Second World War while Mr Straw's father was in prison for refusing to fight against Adolf Hitler'.

Neither was there a full description of the RAF record of Griffin's father Edgar, 88 - in which he apparently served not as a dashing fighter pilot, but as a member of ground crew specialising in radios for Spitfires.
