The plural of chicken is chickens. Do you need help understanding why?

Ma'am, please read my earlier comments in this thread. I am too old to sit on a merry-go-round.

Why would you put a colon before quoted speech? What grammatical rule dictates that that should occur? Certainly not rules for colon usage.

The only time a colon is used for a direct quotation is when the piece being quoted is of some length and then it is used on a separate line, indented and without inverted commas.

The US influence is strong and inevitable. This is because computers and the internet are mainly sourced from US developers and one cannot live without computer related things these days.

I still believe one must preserve English for posterity's sake.

If you want to really keep it very pure, go the German way, and you have a limited span, or go liberal like with English, and your language spreads all over the world. Actually, even the Germans have reformed (Die neue deutsche Rechtschreibung), circa 2007, when I got my ZDfB. My understanding of English has vastly improved thanks to German.

Anyway, did you knock her up or not?

Steven, you need to re-check on the correct usage of 'product' and 'produce' when you are using them as nouns, as per UK English.
Is it computer-related or computer related, or are they just friends?

I think his callsign is a pun on the actor's name so 'Ma'am' may become 'Sir'! Testosterone would certainly account for the unnecessarily aggressive reply.

    .
I disagree. The beauty of English as a language is that is so adaptable to it's circumstances. If you try to pickle it it will die. Punctuation rules, or conventions, are more important because they are the way you convey meaning to a text that would come out when spoken.

You can see tha adaptability and changes in English by comparing British, American and Indian English. There are phrases and ways of pronouncing phrases in American and Indian English that are more "correct" than British English, in that they are the older versions.

Am I to take it that the M25 is full of car, and that I wake up to the sounds of bird, most of which are perched in tree?

Is that the American Suspenders or the British Suspenders?

The American ones being used by men to hold their socks up.
