Or do they just go for anything that they can, who will often be white because:

a) There are more of us
b) They don't want to prey on their local community in order to reduce the chance of getting caught

Under the race relations acts higher penalties are provided for crimes with a racial element, but although this is not the first case involving asian gangs and white children these powers have not been invoked. WHY?

Because no one has provided any proof of a racial element? See my post above.

The fact that the criminals are predominantly asian and the victims are predominantly white should be sufficent. For example, suppose a gang of white youths attacked a black youth at a bus stop, oh, wait a minute...

Was your data gathered through anonymous questionnaire, by face-to-face interviews or a combination of both. If you used statistics, then you wouldn't be able to use the term "To a man" because that suggests a statistical 100% certainty and we know that is (statistically) not possible. If you conducted face-to-face interviews, and found that "To a Man" your interviewees were paedophiles, then your sampling methodologies must be extremely suspect because if you had interviewed me and thousands of other members of the hard-working, and, yes, often hard playing, ex-pat business community, your results would have been very different. You should feel morally and legally bound to pass your findings and interview reports over to the authorities, so these people can be arrested and deported.

I didn't realise Gary Glitter based himself in Thailand. I believe he was first in Cambodia and then eventually jailed in Vietnam. They are different countries, you know. But then, in your generalised, myopic world they would all be the same, wouldn't they? When he was thrown out of Cambodia, why didn't he come to Thailand, if it is bad as your academic study shows? It would be a natural move, would it not? Instead he went to a repressive, corrupt, communist regime because he knew he had a better chance of getting away with it than if he came to Thailand. He knew that what he was doing what not be tolerated here, by Thais, by the ex-pat community or by visiting tourists, and the chances of him being caught and prosecuted were extremely high.

But there you are, never let the facts get in the way of a good, unsubstantiated generalisation based on ignorance and minority-based misconception. Are you a tabloid journo, by the way?

Seriously, if you do happen to return to Thailand, please PM me and I will be very happy to buy you a beer and show you how we actually do enjoy ourselves away from our desks and businesses. Then you will be able to re-publish your study based on fact and not aggravated misconceptions.
