The real irony is a lot of their warships such as Brown , Drummond and Glanville are all named after British officers.

Their navy was created and officered by Brits who had been pensioned off after the napoleonic conflict , and there were many British officers too in the army that crossed the Andes and kicked the Spanish out of Chile and Peru which gave all 3 their independence from Spain in the first place .

Fernandez - and every other Argie politician - doesn't care about the islands, the oil, the islanders or anything else. The Falklands are a godsend to any leader of Argentina, as they have something to blame all of their/the country's fuck-ups on.

If they ever actually invade, one of three things happen:
    1) They win... and lose their main excuse for being shit. Argies tire of shit politician (after their initial euphoria) and get rid of politician.
    2) They win, and spend the next 20 years being slowly demolished by the RN firing a tomahawk at something important every time the MoD scrapes together enough cash to buy one. Argies soon tire of this and get rid of politician.
    3) They lose (most likely scenario). National embarrasment - Argies get rid of politician.

Much better for the president that we own the islands, and they whinge. Endlessly.

Have the feeling you are very much correct; Even though at times there is a conflict of views, the banter is light-hearted. The discussion is always informative with the more astute pointing everyone in the right direction. Yet we get some that think this is the "Naafi Bar" or the "Arrse Hole", how sad.................

Let us be honest with each other here: Is there any military benefit for the UK through insistence on holding sovereignty over the Falkland Islands? Then there is the question of the substantial economic cost in currently maintaining 2,000 service personnel and several warplanes on the islands to guard 3,000 inhabitants and 500,000 sheep at a time of massive cuts in your armed forces. Yes, I know the islanders want to be British, but should the wishes of 3,000 islanders – a community not much larger than my village – prevail over the interests of 60 million UK citizens?

Simple solution to this dilemma – Ms Fernandez wants the oil and gas reserves she can have them – at a price – she pays for all the exploration costs to date - nice profit for UK Government!! Add to which your country is in a position of considerable strength at the negotiating table as Ms. Fernandez is desperate to get her hands on the “Malvinas.” Therefore, the UK government can negotiate untold advantages and privileges for the islanders. Plus the Argentineans are landed with the costs of supplying and defending the islands - something she has not costed into her "masterplan."
Large hole in your reasoning, there is no difference between "3000 Islanders" and 60 million UK citizens, those 3000 are part of the 60 Million. Looking for a way to surrender BEFORE a credible military threat is identified is a new one, even for the French.
