No death threat. Im a civvy nowadays and, as such, an unarmed bastard. I don't wish death upon you, i just hope you stay away from the army. It's for your own good, you understand.

Four things spring to mind after casting a (weary) eye over this thread.
(1) This guy. Definition of twat. Who thinks that mentioning Sandhurst makes him employment gold. The Apprentice: Scholarship to Sandhurst - YouTube
(2) Bravo Bravo, you're being a fool if you walk up to the staff college gate from Blackwater station- Camberley's much closer to that one, and the college town gate requires nipping through Tesco carpark, not past McDonalds.
(3) Oxbridge and Eton are NOT the same. By any stretch of the imagination. Bloke from Oxford got backtermed from my intake for being a (very intelligent) charisma vacuum. Opposite is what happens to the, generally Tim-Nice-But-Dim of the public school world. And the Army seems rather suspicious of the over-educated. Oxbridge seems to make people insecure? Not sure why- as someone pointed out, it's a people job. Although going there does help you feel more comfortable with the concept of formal dining.
(4) People need to get a grip when it comes to big-timing it on the internet about blowing up minors. Or buggering them senseless. Save it for the over 21s who should have the life-experience to know better?"The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposing ideas in mind at the same time and still retain the ability to function." I didn't say it was your fucking fault, I said I was blaming you.

Mate, they are winding you up!
As I inferred earlier, when you start at Sandhurst, you will probably go through an initial phase of "what planet are these blokes from?" when confronted by the products of private education en masse.
However, don't worry about it just concentrate on your own performance and everything will fall into place.Sing its praises till we're through

education
Time to feed the troll.
StL, you are less educated than someone who went to a private school. I will explain why.
1: Most people in private education are not rich. They have parents who make great sacrifices to pay for it.
This includes
a:having fewer children. I know parents who have had less children than they would like because they would not be able to afford private education for more.
b: Lowered living standards. Holidays abroad, new cars, flat screen TVs, new kitchen, seperate bedrooms, these are all things a lot of people in comprehensive schools have and many in private schools sacrifice.
c:Work life balance. Parents working every hour God sent to pay fees. I went to a ok day private school, I had a part time job from the age of 14, the money I earned went to my parents to help pay for my education.
2: I was aware of the sacrifices my parents made for my education, indeed of the sacrifices I made. I worked hard because I had an immediate stake in my education. I had friends who were removed from private school by their parents because they did not value their education and were not prepared to work. I personally confronted people who were disruptive in class because I was aware what they were costing me.
In a private school there is almost no time spent on crowd control which is what teachers in state control spend their time doing, the time is instead spent learning and discussing. You cannot have a discussion if their are disruptive elements in the class room. In the typical private school rather than try to cram the bare minimum required for an exam pass a higher level of intellectual achievment is standard.
In state schools there are no consequences to actions, behaviour in a state school that is considered normal would get you expelled from a private school. Cheating in exams and course work is rife in state schools ( trust me I work in them I know), I've left more than one job because I wasn't prepared to put up with what was considered normal behaviour.
So regarding ex public school candidates in the army, you have a group of people who are used to hard work, are used to hardship, are educated to a level where analysis of a situation/facts is ingrained and have a deeply ingrained sense of responsibility. Now I am not army or ex army but I suspect through my currently alcohol addled mind that these are skills that are very valuable.
On the other hand there is a cohort of people who have had everything handed to them on a plate, school paid for, course work and exams brought up to standard by cheating teachers, no consequences for lack of attention fo laziness, no pressing commitments on finances, allowing new cars, holidays etc. Serve to Lead, should your question not instead be why the hell do people from the state sector join the army?
