Discuss Mess Attendance in The ARRSE Hole on The Army Rumour Service; Is LR a BAT? *Most BATs get their stripey after about five years and then do their damnest to avoid functions in the Sgts mess.
Then again most of them are swingers and clangers, must ...
LR ever heard of espirit-de-corps? Membership of the Mess and supporting the functions are vehicles which helps to foster this. *
A SNCO with an attitude of 'it's just a job', is a dangerous beast. *You have a duty to LEAD subordinates in potentially dangerous, arduous and unpleasant conditions; challenges which few if any other 'jobs' present.
The best way to avoid going to Mess functions is to sack your rank, remain a full screw and allow another up and coming screw the opportunity to be a leader of men and not a wet.
There, your first post and i was easy on you but i hope i never have the displeasure of serving with you.
Eagle - know what your saying but times is a changing, 'comfort breaks' etc are becoming the norm - HURRAH!!
Actually, having just re-read the posts in this thread, LR, you've managed to 'wah' us all. *I cannot believe you are for real - i refuse to accept any SNCO in the British Army would come out with such sh$te.
True, I think Mr LR has had a rite laff, but I hope he is on a wind up as his type are about we have 1 in my unit, new Sgt, can't say goodbye to his Cpl lifestyle. When he was a big fish in a small pond, now as a Sgt, he's a small fish in a huge pond! Like the boys have said if you dont like being a Sgt then hand your pissed mattress in and go and stag on in Burger King! Must be AGC!
Obviously you've gained lots of support for this thread. *It speaks volumes about your attitude, hopefully you're now a full screw again and allowed a real soldier the opportunity for promotion.
Low ridah......youve hit a nerve.
* * * * * Youve got a fair point, younger SNCO's don't want to be forced to go to colostomy bag functions......And why should we......apart from cheap ale , they are crap!
* I agree with you.......keep your gin and pissy trousers i'm off out with the lads!!!!!!
* *You dont have to got to the mess to be a good SNCO.....not these days anyway, maybe it was like that 20 years ago.
No doubt another full screw - hope you are satisfied with your life. *In the words of the Jeddi warriors, you are young but you will learn!!
Don't get me wrong, Mess life is not the be all and end all of SNCO life but Mess functions are one way of fostering closer relationships withing the senior's community. *Build up a strong SNCO esprit-de-corps and it definitely 'rubs off' on the juniors.
In a world of penny pinching and diminishing standards, lets pay the small sacrifice to keep a little 'in house' cohesion to at least maintain the label of 'best armed forces in the world'; otherwise we'll become as good as the French Armed Forces :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[
